The BMSC is based in Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory. Although our members participate in many disciplines of motorsport we are chiefly a rally oriented club and conduct several special stage rallys each year. Our membership are also heavily involved in the organisation of the Rally of Canberra, an Australian round of the FIA Asia Pacific Series.

ACT Forests Come Alive With the Appliance Installation Stages Rally

There is just over a week to go until the opening round of the 2010 AutoTech ACT Rally Series The Appliance Installations Stages. Next Friday marks the start to a year long battle which takes crews to 8 different rallies through the ACT and the surrounding region, including Lithgow, Bathurst, and the fast flowing forestry rounds of the South Coast. The 2010 season is shaping up to be the best yet, with drivers coming from wide and far to get amongst some of the best rally roads the country has to offer. Expected to lead the crews away next Friday night is multiple ACT Rally Champion John Stilling with wife Kim Martin in the hot seat in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9, and hot on their heels will be the 2009 Championship winning team of Thomas and Michael Barrett in their Total Traction Services Evo 6. A hot interstate battle will be on with entries confirmed from New South Welshmen Jamie Neale and Claude Murray, both expected to take the fight to the ACT regulars. Away from the pointy end of the field there will be some hotly contested battles in the Clubman and Silver Cup categories with a variety of cars including V8 utes and Datsun 1600s, to Honda Civics and Hyundai Excels. With over 50 crews registered for this year’s Championship it’s sure to be an action packed year. The Appliance Installations Stages gets underway next Friday night with a special 3.7km Spectator stage being run on the edge on the Tuggeranong Parkway. This a new innovation for rallying in the ACT and gives the public a chance to catch the action nice and close to the city. With demonstration runs being done by 4 times Australian Rally Champion Neal Bates, be sure you don’t miss the action, which gets underway from 6pm on the corner of Cotter and Uriarra Rds. Saturday morning will mark the real start to the rally with crews tackling a hard 24km stage in the Stromolo Forest including a dash down Coppins Crossing Road. A Spectator point will be set up at a hairpin turn off the bitumen back into the forest, where the crews will then head west and use the forest roads around Tidbinbilla. “We have set a course that is a good test of driver, co-driver and vehicle. The rally will suit the smart driver – the person who can read the road conditions and push when they can and back off and look after their car at other times. The person who drives flat out the entire time – won’t finish” said Clerk of Course Marty Holberton. Four Mile Creek Rallysprint - Supplementary Regulations

Supplementary Regulations (280 kB pdf) are now available for the Four Mile Creek Rallysprint, to be held on Sunday 11 April, 2010. This event is Round 3 of the NSW State Rallysprint Series. The event will have two sections run three times in each direction (time allowing), which will amount to approximately 78kms of competitive driving and the transport will amount to approximately 25kms on a good bitumen road. The event is based in a small area of the Canobolas State Forest adjacent to the Cadia Gold Mine approx 20kms from Orange on a bitumen road. The surface varies from all weather road to natural clay type surface and offers a variety of different challenges in a mature pine forest. The roads are what you would expect in a rally environment not those encountered in a circuit based event. There are some areas where high speeds will be reached and others where discretion will be the better part of valour. Generally from a rally viewpoint the roads vary from very good to average. Get your entries in now!

Request for Volunteers - Appliance Installation Stages Rally

Hello All Volunteers, Well everyone should be back in the swing of things by now, so it's time for the 2010 ACT rally season to kick off! Due to the postponement of Narooma, the Appliance Installations Stages will be the first event to be run in the 2010 Autotech Services ACT Regional Rally Series. The event is to be run in and around Canberra on Friday (night) 26th and Saturday 27th March 2010. If you are available to help we would love to hear from you! There are precious few real gentlemen in the world today, and on Tuesday the third of March, we lost a friend, a mate and a truly gentle man in Tom Lunney. A keen competitor, be it para-gliding, dog-sledding or rally driving, he always gave it his all. I was privileged to share some great times rattling around the back of the Brindies in the old Datto with Tom patiently explaining the ins and outs of road-book navigation while I sat terrified (not that I would ever admit it) in the silly-seat. It was almost six years until I could return the favour and have Tom navigate for me in my first rally as a driver. But Tom had been suffering poor health for some years, the gradual degradation making motorsport increasingly uncomfortable and his run in my car turned out to be his last competitive outing. Late last year, with a freshly prepared Excel sitting in the garage, he was forced into full-time care whilst awaiting a heart-lung transplant. The following months took their toll until he finally ran out of late time and passed from this world to the next. So pat Lexy for me Tom and join us in a black-can or two, you will be sorely missed.
