HDCC Twilight Khanacross - 03.03.2007
The first Hills District Car Club Khanacross will be held on the clubs property at Hampton on the 3rd March 2007. A twilight Khanacross, with scruitneering commencing from 1.00pm with the event starting at 3.00pm and a minimum of 8 tests is guaranteed. It also is the second round of the 2007 Sydney Interclub Challenge.
A lot of work has been done on upgrading and widening a large number of tracks so you can have a bit more of a play. A large number of tests will use these upgraded roads and with the recent rain, it has compacted them right down.
It will only cost you $50.00 for the day/night. If you are under 18, $20.00. A canteen will also be run as well.
For further info, my details are in the regulations or PM me here. For a map and directions to Hampton, go to here
Looking forward to seeing you on the 3rd March 2007.

Clerk of Course

Hi Matt
Are you able to confirm that if we (Matt and myself) enter the event, we will be able to do one of our OLT tests? If we can, we'll probably enter. Maybe in a road car rather than our rally car, but we'd like to get our OLTs out of the way as soon as possible.
Thanks,
Ben.

OLT's and Road Cars at hampton
Hi Ben & others
I can confirm that you will be able to do your OLT at the Khanacross at Hampton next weekend. But if you are intending to do, let the NSW CAMS State Office know prior to the weekend.
You are very welcome to run your road car. If this is the case, I would recommend drive to the conditions, as some parts to be used can be tight and twisty.
Also remember that the road car must comply with comply with schedule A, that is you must have a fire extinguisher and wear a helmet.
I hope this info helps.
Matt

This is a pet hate of mine. A khanacross is not a speed event, so the only things you need are a helmet, a fire extinguisher and appropriate clothing (unless it's in the supp regs as a requirement).
I can't understand why people continue with this, nor why clubs (sometimes) add it as a requirement in the regs.

Sosi,
Dad and I will be there in the techni-colour Lancer for our usual father-son battle. Can't stay for beers at the pub afterwards though, got a heap of jobs to do on Sunday so will just make it a day trip.
Thanks heaps for making Hampton a part of the Interclub Challenge.
Andrew.

Thanks for your support Gaz and AJ.
Hopefully, we can get a good turn up for the event. From what I have seen today, the roads are in great condition, especially on the new bits that Bermo and Mick King have worked on for the past few months. The rain has really compacted things done nicely. I wish I could compete in the 720 ute that I drove around today checking things out.
See you both on Saturday.

All the khanacrosses I've been are run in a grass paddock, with lots of gates and all twisty, so how are the roads? for this event to be in top condition.
You don't need bonnet straps or blue triangles either. Really hiding a rallysprint in them thar hills?

Why do people have to have a whinge about safety requirements of events?
We put it in the Supp Regs of our club khanacrosses to have the bonnet restraints as well. It's not that hard - you can use a rope or something temporary if you don't want to drill into your roadcar.
Yeah it's a non-speed event which means what - speeds under 80km/h right?
Our khanacrosses are run through trees on quite tricky tracks - I sure as hell wouldn't want my bonnet flying up at 80 km whilst trying to negotiate our course and I guess someone made a decision that it's a sensible requirement.
Sorry to butt in - I have nothing invested in this particular event, but having organised events in the past I know what it's like when people just take pot shots. If you don't like the regs, don't compete, or better still, organise an event of your own!!! Or at the very least take up your concerns with the CofC or organising club - it's easy to make off-handed comments on a computer, but they don't always have the desired effect and can come across quite negative. My 2 cents anyway (and possibly quite overpriced at that).
[/end sleep deprived rant]

Geeze... Sosi made a slight error - now corrected
you need lap-sash seat belt, fire extinguisher and helmet.
We are fortunate to have quite a few kilometers of tracks around our property that have a lot of altitude changes and twisty bits
There are some roads that have been widened to allow a bit more "attitude" on the car around the corners - particularly the larger cars. This was in response to user feedback.
The property has been inspected by a CAMS official and has their blessing as a khanacross course.
There actually is a rallysprint scheduled for later this year (June 2 if you are interested!), so no real need to "hide" one
cheers

Ditto what Gaz has said. I have edited my post earlier to reflect what I found out this evening. My apologies.
Apart from that, the event is still proceeding even though we have had a bit of rain up there. They are forecasting fine conditions on Saturday so we are looking forward to some hot runs, and plenty of cold beer afterwards.
Regards
Matt

Well Gaz came, Gaz conquered and Gaz got his come-uppance
The Sigma of Death was very fast in the first test, despite rolling a tyre off the front-left halfway through
After getting said tyre back on rim, my daughter went out on the second test and promptly found a tree
Well it didn't steer that good after that - but that didn't deter Gaz!
On the very next test the SoD was flying but lack of skill became apparent towards the end of the test when the left hand wheel brushed a bank - well smashed into may be a better description...
Attached are pics of the only bit of the SoD that we brought back
Thanks Sosi for a great event - Steph and I had a ball and the SoD will be back bigger and better
cheers

Awesome event, cheers to Sosi and the team from HDCC for a fun afternoon and night.
Hanging to see results, only 14 starters (a shame - everyone else must have been at the Mardi Gras ) but still very tough competition. Had a ding-dong battle with Chris Warwick in the Swift GTi and from our rough calculations I just squeezed past in the night tests. Mark and Doug in the Lexcen were unbeatable, with Jeff Taylor very quick as well in the Mirage.
My Dad's camera has some comedy photos of the green Sigma but he hasn't downloaded them yet.
