JME your on the right track, its just times have changed and everyone wants to be a hero or get a medal. 20 odd years ago i would ride my push bike up to the Watagans and watch people like Wayne Bell in his Group A Mazda fly through the forest, find out who is 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc, but you would not know who was after 5th, and this was just a state round. This did not mean no one less was important, but for radio, tv, sponsers this was the story. There was a comment that 4wd is no addittional fun, well get it right and it is. I think my Datsun was a good thing- 2.4 ltr Datrally motor, option 1 box, 4w discs, etc,etc but when you get it right in a 4wd the increased speed does make it more exciting. One thing people should stop doing is comparing 2wd to 4wd. All these people who comment 4wd is not exciting, i hope you do not watch the WRC, or people like Simon Evans or Scott Pedder. Dont get me wrong, when I sell the VII I am going to build a rear wheel drive car, go out and try and beat as many people as possible, but I will be happy with my class result, realise the state championship should be a serious championship, and pat myself on the back and go home. Dont knock people who spend $30000 plus at state level, or we will never get anyone elese to WRC level, because you need that one in a thousand who has money and skill and is serious through state, ARC, and onwards. I belive classes are for fun, even though serious, but out right is serious, and hopefully fun. Dont use the excuse that you have no money, it you really want to do something you will do someting stuipid and "book up"a lot of bills like we did to live our dream. We know one ARC champion who sold there house to get were they are to day. I will now take cover, and no I have not slept with Jamie, but he is a great nav, and has seen a lot, start looking at the bigger picture then whats in your shed.

quick reality check, because we do all realise that this thread is all about nothing don't we. Lets face, it whether its 2WD, 4WD or 6WD, ultimately it'll never happen anyway.

The following biggest problem was that it MUST be pace noted, mainly cause all of our state rounds here in SA are pacenoted, so then it was raised that those travelling interstate were to have extra time off to do this. Then, the descussion was about who to send, and we really didnt get anywhere as there was too many factors into this, like prepping cars, selling cars in off season etc. Basically thats as far as the descussion went so yeah,
Look im all for the event in some form, it would be good to have something central for all states, so mmm, Broken Hill or Alice Springs is looking good hey???

like Ethan has eluded to. lets say for example we chose Wagga in late November.
you'll get 15 NSW crews, 10 from Vic, 6 from SA, 2 from Qld.
I reckon the timing cost and distance will put a lot of competitors off.

Are you able to tell me how many SA peeps have responded to the survey? Obviously, I do not want to know individuals names, just chasing a rough number of respondents. Would like to push this and encourage competitors to take part in the survey.
Kind regards

Request from ARCom Chairman to take part in survey.
It would be greatly appreciated if competitors involved in state rallying at any level or role would participate in the survey regarding the Rallying Grand Final as circulated recently.
To date there have been 59 responses but they are predominantly from NSW, Qld and SA and it would be good to see greater input from WA, Vic and Tas if possible - plus a greater total number Australia-wide.
I would also like to point out that the concept for the Grand Final is very open - a blank sheet if you like - so please don't feel restricted by timing, who gets to participate etc.
I am personally in favour of the idea seeing an opportunity to further promote state level rallying without detracting from it in any way.
However I would also appreciate knowing the thoughts of those of you directly involved in state competition.
I recently competed in the opening round of the NSW Rally Championship and it was an incredibly well-organised, promoted and competitor friendly event - just the sort of event that can showcase the wide depth of talent at state level - as I hope a Grand Final could also do but happy to be guided by all of you involved.
The respondents to the survey so far have been very supportive and more than half have offered to assist in the progress of the event. However it would be good to get wider feedback if you could find the time to participate.
Regards,
Ed Ordynski.

Can I just print this thread and post it or does it have to be some sort of official type feedback?

You could try doing the survey or send me a PM or an email of your thoughts and ideas - not just a repost of this thread ...
