Not really - Alpine doesn't allow any 2wd manufactured after 1990, and doesn't allow 2wd turbo cars like Starions etc.

There was a Proton there in 05 which I don't think was a 1990 model. Other than that the thumping green VN was the next newest car there IIRC.

Jamie, the Clubman/State discussion is a long one, that people on this forum have been trying to grapple with for as long as this forums been operative.
That notwithstanding, there are competitors that compete at State Championship events, in the State Championship, to be the P4/P3/P2/P1 State Champions. And they pay their entry fees just like all the other competitors.
Not recognising them is just as insulting as not recognising the front-runners in the state.

And I disagree. All these classes compete in the one event at Bega/Lithgow/Batemans/Taree/Foster... so they should at the one Grand Final.

Kent, it was another of my dismal attempts to be humourous.
Like any good humour, there was a certain element of twisted truth to it...

Is there enough depths in the fields to warrant all classes or should the grand final teams be weighted on percentage of competitors in each class
eg if there are 2 ( insert class here) competitors one is going to the Grand final yet if there are 30( insert class here) competitors only the cream is going.
Would seem a bit of a mockery if you had somebody pick a car so they were assured of a GF berth

They'd still have to beat those that are in that category already. Even in P1 (which from a cursory glance, has the least contested field at State rounds), there's still regulars that would be tought to beat.
And it would emphasise the class competition, which is rarely recognised.

Maybe a few people would have the same idea and we would then have all the classes with respectable numbers. I am guessing the P1 guys would love to have some more people in their class.

I thought a big part of the Grand Final idea is the state 'team' competition. If P1 is a joke in WA and their winner is some clown who couldn't drive out of sight on a dark night and only turned up to two rounds and won by default, then he/she is WA's best P1 competitor and should go to the GF to get their asre kicked.

Looking at Lithgow, first NSW State round for 2007 ...
4 x P1
6 x P2
4 x P3
4 x N4
7 x P4
19 x P5
2 x P6
More than one class with limited competition.

So basically- no 2wds. No old dungers. It's 2008... the past is gone. Why would we ruin a concept like this aimed at expanding our sport by catering for highly-modified out dated cars, and running it on a crappy roadbook?
|
Are you against 2WD or Older cars??? I don't think Molly's Mirage, or Pete's Mirage, or Blakes Civic or even my Charade would be classed as an old dunger... And why should these people miss out because they don't have huge dollars to buy the most expensive cars and parts... Thats what the ARC is for... wasn't this designed for the rest of the sport to have a championship against each other??? I know I would rather have a vareity of cars running both 2WD and 4WD, having a feild of 80 different cars and driving styles, than 20 guys all in the same cars doing the exact same thing!!!

SO little old me that entered Nat Cap 06 being a grade 3 driver and retired on the second last stage in 6th O/R means im not state level competitive??
To me anyone that decides to enter a series, pays their money and competes at a state event, dissregarding grading or vehicle, is a state level competitor. If no one entered then there would not be an event or series.

Dude your not the real Shooter Mcgavin are you??

""It's Shooter's tour.... Hi Grandma""
For a state rally grand final to work it needs to be performance based through out that year, and not the "Boys club" cars!
If for example one state (Naru) in a class only had low competitive drivers and they were competiting against a stronger state (Christmas island), firstly you would have heavely rusted cars, one set with crabs through out, the other with phosphate all over it, but you would have one state that would lose to the other.
What happens?? one state won't look as good as the other, but that is the best they could provide that year, big deal.
A grand final neads to be about the dude's in the car pushing the machine to its limits and doing it better than anyone else. It should not be about what car someone is driving or their past results from years gorn by, it should be how they have done that year, and if it turns out thay are driving a crappy old Datto then that is what Australias gene pool has produced
I don't think it needs to be showing off the best cars in Australia (we have that its the ARC) its about the people involved. At a footy grandfinal, the winning team is not the one that wore the best boots or had the best mouth guards, or sponsorship, its the ones that kicked the most goals and had the best result at the end of the year.
