Australian Rally Grand Final
The Rally Panel Chairs from all the states have been discussing a concept for a national grand final for State level competitors.
At this early stage there is not much more than a concept to look at - the discussion paper is here at DOCUMENT and the survey that we would like people to complete once they have read the document is available at SURVEY.
Please feel free to circulate the discussion paper far & wide - the more points of view and discussion that happens now the better ...

Quick question on the underlined bit above.
How does this sit with the introduction of officiating points in NSW? This seems to clash with this concept as it reads as though participation as a competitor is paramount when deciding who gets invited to the 'final'. Surely this will somewhat discourage people from taking their points and supporting events through officialing?
I dunno, something to comsider perhaps?
Looks like fun though

Lewis, this is being discussed with quite some interest at each of the SARP Meetings. If you have any further suggestions for the concept and would like to come along to SARP to discuss them, or send them to me to present for discussion on your behalf, then you are more than welcome to. This goes out to all the SA guys/girls on here.

Sounds good to me. Agree with Anna, but taking it logically I'm guessing "compete" would include rounds where you officiated too Ian? It would make more sense that way me thinks.
Good grounds to make it a decent event too. Bring it!

Great idea I reckon ....
I wouldn't like to see it as just the top 10 from each state. I reckon the invitation list should be something like :
- - Top 5 crews from each State Championship
- - Top 2 crews from each state's Clubman series
- - Top 2 crews from each state's Novice series
- - 1 "wildcard" entry nominated by the relevant RAP (eg. an "up & comer")
Maybe invite the highest ranked ARC crew from each state as well ? Maybe as "Team Captain" ?
Re Anna's post - I think it should be based on championship position at end of season, regardless of number of events competed. (Not every state has an "officialling points" system)

I think that is an excellent invitation list. The ARC crew being "Team Captain" is a tops idea.
Does every state have a novice series? We don't do this in SA.

how about a entry approx 500 to 1000 too much and winner in each class take spoils... lets face it if you are one of the best in your state you believe you can beat the other...

There's a bit of variety in the rules/make-up/regulations of the various states Clubman and Novice Series. And complaints about class winners not getting recognition are fair enough, I reckon. Hence, I'd suggest something more akin to:
- - Top 3 crews from each State Championship
- - Top State P6 crew*
- - Top State P4 crew*
- - Top State P3/N3 crew*
- - Top State P2/N2 crew*
- - Top State P1/N1 crew
- - Top One-make Series contender (Excel Series for NSW/Vic/SA, Gemini/Pocket Rocket for Qld - additional P2 crew for WA/Tas)
- - 1 "wildcard" entry nominated by the relevant RAP (eg. Clubman winner/up & comer)
* - that isn't in the top 3 of the State Championship.

I think top 2 from each state in each class.
12 x 7 (Is there a chapionship in NT??) = 84 car feild, will have all the top guys from around the country in each class battling it out.
Team Captin from the ARC would be great... would ACT be Simon or Neal?? would you run from which state they are originally from, or would it be where the factory or team run from?
Would ACT be a seperate state from NSW in this case?? Or would it only be State Championships recognised from CAMS???

No way you can claim Simon! He's Victorian Captain!
Sounds like a great plan, I think both DaveTrees and Fro's ideas have merit.
Lets hope it can come to fruition.

I'm sure there would be a few people interested in the Excel series being included in the Grand Final.
Excels will run in 4 states in 2008 (NSW, VIC, SA and TAS) and we are working on the other two.
