SOS boards, time allowed and that abortive forster rally.
If you have to stop for an SOS board, can you get a time allowance for it?
I've been told you can't which is really shytful.
We filled in an incident report and gave it to the control official at the end of the rally. (The CRO was gone by then)
I have been trying to contact the organisers since sunday night, and got no repsonse. Communication's not their strong suit is it?
Now I'm told my Incident report may have been lost if i gave to an official other than the CRO (who wasn't there any more)
So my summation of the situation (based on what i've been told) is that nothing's been done, nothing ever would or could have been done, and I've been robbed.
So, to the event organisers - I'll do you a deal. You find a way to give me back my 30 seconds, and with it one place, and I'll not organise the biggest poofight you've ever ****ing seen in the lead-up to next years event.

Mmmmmmm,
I'm still waiting for them to return the two calls I made at the beginning of last week. Tip for the organisers- If you have a contact number in the supp regs answer the bloody thing or return the call.
Not to mention when I approached Sarah early Sunday evening, the conversation went like this,
Shab- Excuse me Sarah.
Sarah- No no I mean no. (fairly sternly) Mike Bell was no further than two metres away and within earshot and said nothing.
Shab- Fine don't worry about it then.
I was there to ask if i could pay for one more of our crew to go to the presentation. As you can imagine I didn't pay and he ate for free.
Poor customer service poor form.
That's about all I've got to say, sorry for the thread hijack Matt.
Shab

IMO...
I'd personally stop for an SOS becuase if I was the one holding up the board then I'd want someone to stop too!
I don't think its unreasonable for the person to seek compassionate time when he does everything right.
I don't think the time is really important to him, He's probably just pi.ssed off because no one is being too helpful.

Was Peter Macneal at the event? When I have been CRO I have found him to be extra helpful in managing the calculation of times necessary to be taken to the stewards hearing.

I wasn't at Forster, so all comments are in general terms...
There seems to be a general trend among event organisers to be very conservative when re-instating lost time to competitors.
I presume they're wary of being overly generous, to avoid making it a competitive 'lurk'.
But what's the real effect of granting less than reasonable allowances?
It discourages people from stopping when they see an SOS board?
Genius!

Why would you stop at an SOS board unless you were the message car from the scene of an accident which requires the attendance of the FIV or have such similar important information that would in all probability require the cancellation of the stage?

Mike,
He's talking about stopping at someone holding up the SOS sign.

Hey Shab,
I can only confirm what you said re officials (Specifically the one you mentioned) To make a long story short(er) I got up at 2.30am to drive from Coffs to VOLUNTEER at the event. First stage was cancelled, no one seemed to know what was going on and the Stage Commander had gone, so we rang HQ and was advised someone would get back to us. I rang again about an 1 1/2 hours later (still on our own at the start control having no idea what - if anything - was happening) and Miss answered, called my partner a liar for saying someone would get back to us... "put him on the phone now, I'll tell him what he can do with his lies..." and then told me to stop screaming at her. I advised I hadn't even started yet! I know it was a stressful time for all concerned, but I also know I will NEVER volunteer again to work at an event where that particular person is involved.
BTW - still not a word from HQ or a thank you for our efforts for the weekend.

That's rubbish. The report should have been handed to the sweep vehicle with the other documentation they collect from all of the controls so that it would get back to HQ for consideration.
Incident reports are also reported over the radio to rally HQ so that they know about them and it can be logged (at least we do that at RoC).

I think the obvious thing to do if when you stop for a SOS board, make sure your car is blocking the road so the organisers have to do something about it.
It's easy to ignore one angry entrant, more than 6 tend to get noisy...

Well, I know I'm not HQ, but I'll say thank you for your efforts on the weekend. And it was great to put a face to a forum name on Sunday.
