Seems like a reasonable response to some of the larger issues.

No doubt there wil be people who (reasonably or not) are critical of the response, but it's at least they've bothered and at least they've accepted that it needs to be better.

I can't recall seeing the CoC of any other event that's copped such a pizzling be that concilatory so publically, so soon.

They realize the issues. more importantly they now why they happened and how to prevent them for the future.

Next years event will be run very differrently.

The Great Lakes Rally - CAMS Media Release

From the CAMS Website:

The Great Lakes Rally
CAMS Media Release
21 Sep 2007

Following a number of organisational issues arising out of the recent Great Lakes Rally, the New South Wales leg of the NEC Australian Rally Championship, CAMS and Rallycorp will be working in close consultation with the event organisers to ensure that all aspects of these major events continue to meet the professional standards required.

“As with any new major event, particularly one as complex as a round of the Australian Rally Championship, it is understandable that there are always going to be teething problems and CAMS is keen to work alongside the relevant parties to ensure that the necessary strategies are put in place to address the issues identified,” said CAMS CEO Graham Fountain.

Pirtek Rally Team Driver and New South Wales resident Michael Guest has commended the hard work done by organisers of the event saying “The Great Lakes Rally has the best service park in Australian rallying and the roads were varied and challenging. It really was a drivers rally, the competition was tight, the results proved it was a tough rally for anyone to win and I really look forward to trying to win it in the next few years.”

Mr Fountain also added that “despite the issues that arose, the organisation are to be commended for conducting the event under the circumstances they faced.”

CAMS will now follow routine procedures in examining the event, and liase with appropriate parties including ARCom and Rallycorp to ensure that the risk of issues identified from this reoccurring are minimised.
