Corsa results url (maybe)
After I received the access db that I was meant to use to enter results, I went a bit crazy (cos I dislike access).
So I have written another results entering thingy, this new thingy has a web interface, and besides from the data entry bit it has a display bit. I am still working on it but to let people know where to look:
http://corsa.rallytiming.com/
Hopefully I will be able to keep it up to date throughout the day (depends on phone reception for an internet connection).
If this all falls in a screaming heap, worry not I will be bringing the ye olde system for a backup.
I only decided to do this on Wednesday night, so it will be pretty pov pack for this weekend, basically what you see as well as stage and class/series results for the moment, but I am sure lotsa improvements can be made later.
Obviously just a test atm, I will add all the real entries later today in readiness for tomorrow.
You can click in the time cells!
Paulie

Nothing wrong with Access, best desktop database application there is, bar none. Perfect for a scoring database. Problem is usually the rookie programmers, or people trying to do too much with it (data and users).
Web application is a bit over the top for a scoring system, unless of course you're making it public. Looks good though.

that looks fantastic.
hope you can keep live updates throughout the weekend.
rallying needs these sort of innovations
would be great for other event organizers to use this system in other events as well.

I will have to take your word for that, my only problem is that I have never used it in any meaningful way. So I figured it would be quicker to throw this up than learn access
But yeah my main goal was for it to be public so, webness all the way.
Paulie.

I'd love to work with any developers with an interest to create a solution for event results. Key components would be a robust, simple back end that could be scaled up from simple FNS events to multiple-day, multiple-class/series events; a web front end to report results; a module to allow infield results printing; and a few different methods of data entry to let WICEN dudes do it as part of what they do, or to allow data entry at service park in controls or whatever.
There are a number of solutions out there, but none that are open source or that have all elements of the required functionality.
Ideally, you'd end up with an idiot-proof package you could install on a nuffie laptop with the dude doing data entry knowing nothing more than what is on the time card.
This could scale up to a few dudes with laptops entering the results as it came in, some dudes checking these data, and a front end to print stage/leg/event/individual competitor results or have this web-accessable.

I've always wanted to build a complete event organisation application. Something that does everything from your Itinerary to online results. Trouble is finding the time, it would be a big job.

To give you an idea of what I was thinking. The web front end, currently is a full application that stores all the data etc. It also allows a user to set up a full rally from scratch, you can enter the rally info, then all the stage info, then all the entrants, all through simple application pages.
It is equipped with a web service to accept data from "whatever". Currently I am running the same web app on the data entry machine, but when I can it will communicate with the public machine to update the results.
So in theory it could be any laptop running anything, that just needs to be able to connect to a web service and upload the shiznits in the correct way. probably want it to accept connections to allow all the rally specs to be downloaded as well.
It's a start.

Paulie's too modest to say that he owns the domain name: 'www.rallytiming.com' I think. Therefore, he can have:
anyeventname.rallytiming.com
Brilliant job though Paulie. Even more so considering you only started less than 48 hours ago. I reckon the sponsors will appreciate the extra 'online' signage for the stage-by-stage results.
Thanks again.

Its a killer job alright, starts out really easy, add up a few times, sort by total.
Then the shiznit hits the fan when you've got multiple classes/series/eligibility requirements, dudes restarting, no penalties/some penalties, derived times, blah blah.
Sounds like Paulie's off to a good start. Platform independence is important, good one.
TKM, I started doing all the docs like that when I got sick of making an itinerary change and thus needed to change schedules, road books, various instructions, meet times blah blah. Everything got so bloated Excel couldn't hack it.
Then I tried Access back end, Excel front end. Couldn't make it easy enough to use (my lack of skill), so was pretty useless for anyone else.
Having the app start with the itinerary and a start list and set itself up from there would win.

Updated
OK, so hopefully all the entrants are in there.
All the classes and series are now viewable.
There is a slight round trip issue happening, but I will try and fix that later.
Paulie
