The story goes a little bit like this.
I mention one night at the ACT series committee meeting that we give away too much money at the end of the year and we should spend some money on the promotion of the series. I'd been talking to Mac at events about doing something for the series and he was happy to help.
Basically, the committee agreed to go halves in the costs with the organising club. The costs were $100 per media release with a total on 2-3 per event. For Corsa, we only had 2 of them ( pre event and post event) and the LCCC paid $100 and the ACT series paid $100.
For that $200 we got, a professional media release that was sent anywhere and everywhere. We had follow up calls ( which resulted in more media coverage) from ABC news ( Sat Morning), 104.7 ( Saturday Morning), Win Television ( 2 reports- Friday Night and Monday night) and constant calls from Canberra Times for updated results ( 3 articles over the weekend). We also got the usual rally friendly sites interested too... Rally.com.au and Rallysport mag...
The main key thing is that we wouldn't have had any media coverage if we wouldn't have taken the time to meet/talk to the various people. Mac bought them in and I made myself available for comment.
I'd like to think that these media outlets are genuinely interested in ACT rallying but I'd have to say that having TRD at the event was a definate drawcard. I'm not complaining because ultimately the event and the sport in general will benefit.
We have plans in place to do a similar thing for Natcap also as part of out ACT series duties...
Ultimately, ACT rallying owes a great big thank you to Mac and his efforts.
