Molly and Coral Taylor on morning TV
This was a bit random: on Wednesday morning (21/11) Coral and Molly Taylor were interviewed /featured on the channel 10 "9am with David and Kim" show. Both looked resplendant in their respective TRD and Ralliart shirts. Molly was the main focus of the segment. It was a leaning more in favour of discussing them as a family (how they feel about each other competing, and did the usual questions like asking if there will ever be a family act, do you worry etc), than competition but the sport did get discussed in fairly good detail. They showed a couple of random segments of footage, incl a few good bits of Molly's white and red (I think) Mirage.
Molly was a great ambassador for motorsport. She presented well, spoke very well, thoughtfully and intelligently (considering she is a kid, and has a mouthful of braces). She didn't sound manic about the sport, neither did she sound like a typical teenage girl "oh my god, oh my god, oh my gaaawd..." but she also didn't sound like some robot. She spoke about learning to drive, and then learning to drive on the road as well, she described aspects of the sport very well in such a manner that David Rayne and Kim (Watkins?) and hopefully the wider world could easily digest. She came across real well and portrayed rallying and motorsports in general in a really good light.
Sorry I didn't record it.
Hopefully people like Ralliart and maybe government sports and safety bodies will do more with her in the future - she did come across very well and with some results under her belt would be an asset for promoting things like Ralliart products and driver safety for young women.

Kim Watkins is a very handy steerer in her own right and wasn't far off a drive in the female works Holden V8 a few years back. I think she's won a few grand prix celeb races too.

They mentioned the celeb races. They then went on to discuss the difference between rallying and circuit racing and how the circuit goer has the same track and corners lap after lap whereas on stages it is totally different for kilometres. They touched on many aspects of motorsports.
Though.... do consider that this morning they had a medium on... talking about ghosts and angels

You don't have to be sexist Kate. Anything that promotes RALLYING is great - well done to Coral and Molly.

Im guessing that was a joke but in case it wasn't - agreed, anything that promotes rallying is fantastic - however it is great to see women in rallying promoted too. We all know that motorsport is publically seen as a 'blokes game' yet those of involved in rallying know that not to be true - Molly is young and very talented, Coral is at the top of the game in Australia - and its great to see them out there promoting not only rallying but the female side thereof.

It was without hesitation that I got some FWD tuition from Molly. I have previously had 1-1 from Rick Bates when I had the Gemini and he is clearly a class act. She was a very good teacher and got me efficiently to a competent level (note I didn't say 'fast')
The thing that struck me about Molly is that watching her there has been an exponential improvement in her driving skill level. Truly astonishing. The thing that really sold me was when I was doing a road closure at Bateman's Bay in 2006 and she hammered into a corner in the grunty Celica and it understeered and she gathered it up - but I was close enough to clock her eyes and , boy, does she have focus. She did the Haugland ice driving school in Norway this year and that is no pushover. Paul Batten is the other young guy with incredible focus and talent. I think it is great that an 18 year old girl can drive with such great competence and confidence. It adds a dimension to the sport that is worth supporting.
I think it is fantastic that we have competitors like Kate Bowler, Kelly Caruana (Kel - love the way you machine gun start controls !). Sophia Moody etc
I'd be happy for any of them to teach my daughter how to drive . PS my daughter runs a swear jar and I am friggin constantly in friggin debit- we have enough in the swear jar to fund the Indian Subcontinent for a year. I racked up another $20 on the way to Frankilins today. She hasn't quite grasped the rally world......
Check out the video of Molly from Bateman's Bay: http://www.thebeastofbondi.com/_mgxroot/page_10729.html

Well said, Kate. Sometimes, we are very much playing in a 'blokes world' and it is great to have Molly and Coral in front of plenty of viewers proving that us chicks can do just as well as the blokes!

Yes Kate, I was just stiring.
I thought I would have got a bigger bite though. A bit disappointing really.
As for Molly and Coral, I am one of their biggest fans.

Ah... well that was ok then. My wife had it on in the background and called me in to see it. Or at least that is my story and I'm sticking to it!
