How cheap are you.... from Khana to Rally

With all this talk of huge costs to run in an ARC and be competive, I thought in the interest of balance we should have a "how cheap can you do it thread" for those aspiring to leave the confines of Khana and move to a rally/rallysprint etc.

There is alot to be said for a Datto 1200 P1 (* insert Excel or other cheap bottom feeder car), a tent, and friends/family doing the service.

Entry Fee $200 (rallysprint) $350 100k rally.
Fuel Car $100 (on a long event )
Tow fuel $100
Accom $25 per night
New rear tyres every two events (if required )

So if there are newbies reading these other figures (ARC costs), don't freak out too much it can be done cheaper (for State rounds and clubman rounds).

Damien
ps. There are other costs sneaking in all the time, but just wanted to make the point that it is still achievable to those on a strict budget.

* This could be any car that you can get cheap parts for, but keep in mind that more power equals more tyres and fuel and it can be significant over the year.

For Pete and I to run a khana in Spot (the Gemini):

Entry $50 for the two of us
Fuel $5? maybe a bit more if someone else's car breaks and they run Spot too
Tow fuel $30 or transport fuel $15
Damage/wear and tear/upgrades on average $50/event, less if I don't drive

So lets say $70 each... licences are already paid for but that would be $150/year with club membership for the two of us.

To run a rally in Spot would be similar to Damien's costs, except I don't go through tyres that much (I'm soft) and we cap accom at $30/person/night and stay in ensuite cabins (luxury!!!)...

Licences $150 year

khana- entry fee (50) = fuel (10) + tow(depends)- but for local- under 100 bucks easy...

Rally

entry 350
fuel rally car- 100
fuel tow car- 100 (max)
tyres -1/2 a pair - 150
maintainence- 300 (oil changes( engine every event, gearbox & diff every 2nd event) brake bleed, filter, + sundry minor damage)
accom-(zero if in canberra) 1-200/night for everyone if away

so 1200 bucks if I don't break anything & I usually break something.

tanz is alrighttanz is alright
Living in Central Qld where there's only two local rallies. here's a sample of the events I competed in last year.

Local QRC $580 entry fee (from memory)
$100 rallycar fuel
$30 service vehicle
no accomodation as I live less than 20km from event.

Club level event at Yarraman 600km away
$180 entry fee
$165 tow and service vehicle
$85 rallycar fuel
$0 accomodation (camping)
$75 beer post event

Coffs Coast Rally 1200km away
$420 tow fuel
$100 rallycar fuel
$350 accomodation (took whole family holidaying)
$250 entry fee (club component only)

one set of tyres for entire season bought secondhand $85 each. But I've lashed out for this season and bought some new ones worth $100 each.

Damien I think another thread could be started on how people adjust their life and money spending to compete in events.
Im sure my poor wife could tell a few

No no no Stewy, everyone's got the same amount of money to live on, it's just that some people have more to spend on rallying

says the chick who lives in 3/4 of a 7x12m shed... the other 1/4 belongs to the sports sedan

It lies with the fact that 3/4 of a perfectly serviceable shed is being taken up with living space!

....but seriously, much respect for having a sports sedan in the lounge room.

ABCxyz has some part of a clue
Hi

On a state level what are the cheaper options for class of car, I've heard of the Gemini series and now the Excel series, are these the 2 options. What would a competitive car cost and how many events would be local (200 ish k's) to Brisbane.

Thanks

EDIT***

My question might get lost here a bit so I have started a new thread with it.

Thanks
