PCD Engineering ACT Regional Rally Series Meeting with Rally of Canberra Organisers
Your PCD Engineering ACT Regional Rally Series Committee representatives had a meeting with some of the organisers of the Rally of Canberra (RoC) this evening. The aim of the meeting was to discuss and resolve many of the potential issues arising from combining an ACT Series-level event with the ARC/APRC that RoC uses runs.
In a nutshell, it seems like a great opportunity for an ACT Series Competitor to virtually compete at an ARC level for a Club-level price.
I wrote the minutes this evening from an ACT Series perspective. If the following information is wrong then the fault is mine alone for transcription reasons, as they have not been checked by the ACT Series Committee nor the RoC organisers as yet. Mike Bell, Clerk of Course of RoC, was keen for our discussions to get out to the public as soon as possible so I'm trying to oblige. There is still some to-ing and fro-ing* to be resolved. No doubt after this is posted there will be more ideas and constructive comments to discuss in the future.
Thanks.
Mark
* fro-ing not actually related to Fro Horobin, or verb or action related to Fro Horobin. Surprising, eh! May look a bit like Fro though. Kind of a shimmer may statically charge the issue to have hair like fro.

Good stuff.
WRT the perceived need for a Safety Check for regionally scrutineered cars, there is no need.
The accredited scrutineer who signs off on each car is the person responsible, not the event. This is one of the positive, tangible outcomes from the National Officiating Programme disaster.

Good Kharma to ROC and the ACT Series Reps.
The Reps only seem to cop it when things go bad and never get the credit they deserve...
Top Job...

Some ACTRRS have expressed an interest in using pre-written pacenotes. We will be seeking an ARC-experienced navigator who isn’t competing to drive over the course in the week beforehand to write pacenotes for distribution to ACTRRS crews.
|
I know I don't have a car any more and stuff but most of the people I've spoken to about pace notes have held the opinion same as me that notes are a driver's thing, and the co-driver has the important job of writing them so they can read them out later, with impeccable timing, like Charles does .
So getting a co-driver to write notes (unless it's someone like Dale "Brown Suit" Moscatt) without the assistance of a competent driver is in my opinion risky.
I so wish I had a car to drive and it wasn't being held a week before our QLD trip .

No, no, no!!! This is a disaster. Ever since I've had any involvement with ROC (dating back to 1991), club level rallyists in Canberra have been complaining and moaning that "nobody at ROC cares or listens to us little fish".
Now there is one less thing for club level rallyists in Canberra to complain about. How can this be a good thing?

Sensational idea!! High fives all round for all involved in making this happen. There was talk early in the peace between myself and a few others about not being able to afford to to run the full length event if fees were as they have been in years gone by despite wanting to. With this idea, the 'little men' get to have a play with the big boys, complete with their big boy audience. I think it's fantastic!

OK so the conclusion is...
you can do pretty much anything you want- 1 day or 2 days, recce or no recce, roadbook or preprep'd notes, ceremonial start or no ceremonial start, regional scrute OK(maybe safety check)
FIA pyjama's required.
Coolies... we're in..., just need some pyjamas....

So in accordance to competing in the ACT Series ($355) section of the 2008 Rally of Canberra, do u need to have "IN DATE" FIA Approved Seats and Fire Bomb?
Its just a common question when entering Rally of Canberra.
Cheers

My understanding was all scrutineering requirements, for the ACTRRS event, will be set at the State Level: so you don't need FIA Approved seats or Firebomb. Also, as per my notes: "...Fire bombs for out of state competitors will not be required if entered in the ACTRRS event...".

Correct.
Also, if you do recce on Thursday and don't get all stages done twice, you still cannot go back on Friday. It's either one or the other.
