oh and start order is determined by ballot from within the grade of the driver as per the grading list published on an annual basis (however on occasion minor updates to grading occur within the usual calendar year applicability following approval by the Victorian Rally Advisory Panel). So, grade B's are grouped in start order before C's, who are before D's etc etc
Gradings are determined based on finishing position in multi-club level events and above, with the higher the level of the event, the deeper into the results and/or the higher grade attained based on the result. Gradings are also attained through overall series results as well for the VRC and VCRS.
Grades are held as driver, co-driver and navigator (i.e. 3 grades for each person as per the list.. although, you dont get on the list unless you are graded D or above in at least one of the 3 categories..
Now if you want me to explain why the width between rails (gauge) on a rail track is 4 feet 8 and a half inches in NSW, yet 5 feet 3 inches in Victoria... ummm.. can I take a while to consider that!
Cheers
David

The VCRS 4th to 6th usually refers to results from the year prior to the year thegrading was attained, and in case you were wondering, you are noted as a grade E navigator and a grade E co-driver as well (at least here in Victoria!). BTW, if you had been placed 1st to 3rd at Bonnie Doon 2007, then your grade would have been a C.
Upgrade recognition for multi-club events such as Bonnie Doon occurs only for the first 6 places (as in 1 to 3 go to grade C at next annual update if they are not at that grade or above already, and 4 to 6 go to grade D..ditto).
For State Championship events, 1st to 10th go to C, and 11th to 15th go to D.
One of the really crazy things about the Victorian system is that there has been cases of really small events and all finishers thus becoming eligible for upgrade. In fact a couple of years ago, there was a multi-club event piggy-backed onto a VRC, and the multi-club had just 3 competitors from recollection. I can't quite recall whether all 3 finished, but I'm fairly certain at least 2 of them did.. and they both got upgraded at the next upgrade anniversary!
oops.. did I say crazy? are there any Victorian based mod's?
Cheers (and waiting to be marched to the border!)
David

Yup. How does that relate to the PRC classes, and Historics, Classics etc.? Or is it not meant to relate to it at all?
Interesting about the driver grading system. I didn't realise Victoria still did that. Driver grading has no meaning in NSW anymore apart from bragging rights I think.

It doesn't relate at all .... grades are based purely on results in events
Only club-level events are still ballotted on driver/crew grade.
As most club-level events are at least partially navigational, it's not really possible to properly seed them on stage times. Bonnie Doon is of course routecharted .... but because it's part of the VCRS it uses the same start order procedure as other VCRS rounds.
The current grading system isn't perfect, but it's better than it was pre-2000ish after myself & a few others did a revamp of the grading criteria.
No-one down here gets overly fussed about start order anyway !

Sorry Dave, I didn't mean how do the classes relate to driver grading or vice versa, I meant how does the A, B, C, D etc. relate to the PRC classes, if at all.
The driver grading thing is a digression... yeah, results based. All good.
Cheers

Pretty much the same, except the >2L class is separated into 2WD & 4WD, and there is no differentiation between P5 & P6.
