Stumbled upon this:
http://www.cams.com.au/bulletins/B08...ty%20Cages.pdf
However, is there something my simple mind has missed?
I understand 1.5.3 & 1.5.2, very straightforward, but 1.5.1 only requires Type 3 Safety Cages in National Level Rallies ( or Tarmac), so does that mean cages of Types 1 or 2 are acceptable at events below National level.
The included tables indicates no, but cross references to this new ruling.

I think you need a type 3 cage in all rally events with the following ......
"1.5.3 Exceptions
A safety cage is not mandatory in the following event types:
(i) Introductory Rallies
(ii) Club Level Rallysprints
(iii) Some Touring Road Events (refer Touring Road Event Regulations)
(iv) Touring Assemblies
(v) CAMS 5th Category Historic Cars competing in rallies shall be fitted with a safety cage if
a safety cage is required for the particular vehicle when entered in Historic-only circuit
races. In such cases, the safety cage shall be to at least the same specification as"
Thats what I read it as.

1.5.2 refers to Open Top Cars.
1.5.1 refers to Closed cars, but only states that a type 3 safety cage is required at National events, I believe that this could be read that a safety cage is not required below National.

They went through such suffering to get the tech regs out of the category regs - cage stuff in sched J instead of the rally code. ANd now they go back by saying see the TRE regs for requirements for cages there. I'm sure the vics are doing some thinking about what it means for their events.

I don't see how you could interpret it that way ... the Table is part of the regulation, & makes it quite clear that Type 3 cages are required in all timed rallies except for some specific exceptions.
The only thing that seems to have changed is that you now can't use a 1/2 cage in open top cars like you used to be able to ?
You can't interpret the text in isolation from the Table.

Nope - nothing has changed in regard to TREs. There is only a requirement for cages in TREs with closed road tests, and even then only under certain circumstances ...

sooo to drag two threads together to highlight some stupidity.
I can't put rally tyres, or semi slicks on a standard car to compete in a MK or KC, without being a 'special' and running a 1/2 cage at least. As per the new 4H regs.
BUT I can compete in intro rallies, TREs &, supersprints, and club level rallysprints with whatever tyres I like (ie rally tyres, semi slicks, slicks) without a cage at all!
OMFG! retarded much!
