Rally Hoons - What To Do To Them?
I can't help but bring up a couple of behaviour observations at the Bay Stages 2008. When I saw during the day a couple of cars taking off like a F**K wit from the service area I felt embarrassed and disgusted. Be it smoking the tyres up the road or anti-lag cracking away on the main raods like a ego maniac - You know who you are and I think you people need to be pulled into line and be officially warned, fined and excluded from future rallies to think about your actions!! Maybe community rally service and official before you are allowed to compete again. These are the type of actions that piss off the local councils and community. It is not a positive image for rally at all.

Well the problem is that people whinge on forums about it but don't actually tell anyone who can do something, like the Organisers or the Stewards.
Care to set an example?

Yep, name and shame. The only people that will get p...d off are the guilty ones.
Oh, and I noticed on some video that a certain fast white 2WD still has some "melted wiring" from Lithgow. They really need to remove that "melt wiring" switch.

You are right. I should have said something but to be honest I had enough of my own issues and time schedules to keep and the issue was low on my list of priorities. It was only after the event when I had time to reflect that I thought about it more. Also the old expect someone else to do something about it or dobers wear napies thing comes in I guess.

In the first instance provide an incident report to the organisers so they can consider what action, including reference to the stewards they will take.
And Naming and shaming is good too. But no actiopn can be taken by the officials if they are not officially made aware.
I dont quite understand the melt wiring thing either - what does that mean?

Also, the AMSAG background of rally I have come from the last couple of years has never brought any of this type of behaviour out (for whatever reason I am not entirely sure). I am just not used to these types of things happening at rallies at all.
Simple and effective hey

It is never too late.
Write to the Organisers, with all the detail you can & cc to State Council.
BTW, I have a witness for you for the anti-lag incident & the same offender was also seen travelling at excessive speed as eluded by you.
One of the Course Cars was in the area at the time, perhaps they could help.

Just throwing this out there (and not suggesting what the individual(s) have done is right or wrong) but what about getting the locals excited?
I know that we always toot the horn and maybe give a little anti-lag on transport if we drive past some kids on the side of the road watching and waving... (within reason.. i.e not in a builtup area)
the idea being to fuel excitment and get them to nag their dad to take them out spectating...

Taillight kill switch.
There are regulations you sign when you enter a rally about driving sensibly and not speeding. I think the best course of action is report to the CoC / Stewards in the first place. Once someone gets excluded for it, the rest who dont care about rallying's public image will get the idea pretty quick.

Based on this feedback I notice others also have the same concerns when people act like this. I was surprised to see people who are meant to be setting an example doing the same hoon actions. In hindsight maybe I should have confronted these people and given them the chance to pull their head in or perhaps reporting them and letting the organsiers take care of the situation is the only action to take. I assume a letter is the only course if I am going to "Winge" about it? a letter to the organisers should be easy enough but who is the "State Council"?

Fear not, you are not whingeing, you are drawing attention to people that bring the sport into disrepute, & subsequently jeopardise its very future.
The NSW State Council make all of the decisions that run the sport in this state, I will find out to whom you should correspond & forward the information to you.
My witness is willing & able to submit a statement in support of your concerns.
We just need to identify that Course Car, we believe it was a 0 car, can anyone help?

There were a few 0 cars over the course of the rally. Care to provide any further info?
00B - Stewy, Mazda RX7
0 - Claude/Lizzy - WRX
00A - Molly/Glen (not likely, considering where they stopped)
000 - Mick / Shabby (not sure what in)
Meander 0 - Nighto
Later on 0 was Ric Cary. Hope that helps... the SKDACians would know whether there were any other 0 cars.
I also had issues with a couple of people and their actions during the rally after being off on the side of the road, but I'm not sure whether they classify as dangerous or just plain stupid... (certainly not bringing the sport into disrepute since they were only seen by the bottom end of the field and some trees). Anyone fancy a walk along the swept line in the direction of oncoming cars? (And no, Ari, I don't mean you... there was no SWEPT line where you were...)
