AMSAG Oberon Nov 29
I've been working away on this event and everything is falling into place nicely.
Supp Regs should be out shortly. I'm up in Oberon over the weekend to finalise a few things.
I've got 170km's competitive over 10 stages, 7 of which are a different configuration.
The overall event distance is approx 255k's - so that's only 85k transport.
It's an all daylight event, and the planned entry fee is $270. AMSAG membership is $50 ($70 family) but if you join for Oberon Rally then we will extend that membership until the end of the 09 season.
Both AMSAG Classics and Modern vehicle's are catered for, and early indications are that both fields will have a similar number of entries (I've been drumming up the modern boys).
The event starts in Oberon, but there is a "central" service area at Shooters Hill. 5 specatator points, and they are located that the service crews can leave the service park, watch their car, and return in plenty of time. They stay on the main road as well... so travel time is quick.
A new stage or two (well last I remember rallying it was about 97), some of the roads just recently graded. Should be good conditions for Oberon (and there are very few humps- I've deliberately missed them)
We have plans for an after rally party/social event, but am still locking in the details.
If you have any questions feel free to call me on 0432919800, and as always officials are needed. I'm very keen to see a few new faces running AMSAG and we have people willing to help you get there.
Oh... and I believe I already have 2 'new' entries from "The Girls" warming up for Rally De Femmes.

So for someone new to rallying (hoping to have a car ready in a month or so) what are the requirements for a car/driver/navigator in an AMSAG rally? I've read the safety requirements document on the AMSAG website and done a search here, and it seems to me that;
1) You pay $50 to join AMSAG (is this driver and nav, or only driver?)
2) You need to have full rego (which I have since the car I'm building has been my road car for the last 5 years and the rego is current, but the seats/cage/battery location/harnesses aren't engineered or anything)
3) Comply with the safety requirements doc, which seems pretty similar to Schedule R but maybe a bit less prescriptive,
4) Get a UHF radio
Anything else?
At face value it seems pretty cheap (170k for $275 + $50 membership) and I might be able to do it pre-logbook
Cheers

Yep, you've basically got it right Nick.
There is no competition licence- just a current drivers licence. We give you a log book for the vehicle and it's free.
There is no doubt that starting rallying in AMSAG is easier than starting rallying with CAMS- there are less hoops to jump through and control procedures are simple.
We are more than willing to help you get there mate. Give us a call and have a chat, or call Rallyequip, or Mick King, Eddy at Penrith City Exhaust etc... anyone involved in AMSAG.
PS: If we get a few entries from the ACT area I'll key up a scrutineering/doco in the week prior to the event down that way...

The car needs to be registered... it can't be a CAMS conditional rego. I'm not certain what ACT rego is or isn't, but NSW rally rego is a conditional rego for CAMS events only.
Engineers certificates are advised, but not compulsory.

Jme,
I've always wanted to compete in one of your events, damn this sounds mighty tempting. Hopefully there in some capacity (driver/nav/controllie perhaps?)
Could it be done as a day trip from Sydney? Just thinking about finances is all........

One of my events... It's my first! But you know me... always got a theory or two about how things should be done. I'm fortunate to have some good people on board, and I think we've got a fairly good read on what competitors want at the moment (CAMS or AMSAG), so I'm confident we can put on a good event.
The UHF is kinda compulsory... it's regulated in AMSAG that you carry a UHF as part of the safety plan. The reality is that the event is structured so that there is very little need for it... we have very similar procedures/checks to most CAMS events- but you still need it- even if it's only to get in touch with HQ to tell us to hold the sweep car for you.
Maybe just borrow a hand held.

Regarding ACT Rally Rego, there's nothing on my rego form that mentions CAMS. Sure, you need a CAMS licence - but not a CAMS logbook - to get the car registered in your name but no mention as part of the condition of rego that it is to a CAMS-specific event.

You don't have to fill out a Cams bull**** form for rego so I reckone its all good.
It is just restricted rego nothing to do with Cams.
Matt Borman whats the go had any troubles??
Sounds very tempting
But if something happens with the car I would be killed as Rally des Femme is on the next week.
