2009 AMSAG Rookie Series
Hopefully the series regs will be posted on the AMSAG site in the not too distant future. I'm still waiting on a few event dates and sponsors/prizepool contributors to fall into place, but this is the 'nuts' of it so people can start planning out their year.
The rationale behind the series is two-fold. Firstly, to provide a cheap, easy to compete in series for new competitors as an introduction to rallying and secondly to cater for a large number of existing AMSAG members who are already competing with us.
ARTICLE 2 - SERIES STRUCTURE
2.1 Series Structure
a) The Series shall comprise of the following Rounds:
Round Date Rally Director
1 April Jenolan Rally ($280entry) Peter Batt
2 Oct/Nov Oberon Rally ($280entry) Jamie Neale
3 Oct/Nov Rallysprint (approx $130) Arron Topliff
b) The Series Coordinator reserves the right to either cancel or amend any Rounds of the Series.
ARTICLE 3 - REGISTRATION
3.1 a) Competitors must make application to compete in the Series by completing the registration form. The registration form must be lodged with the Series Coordinator prior to the start of the first Round in which the competitor wishes to score points.
b) Registration for the series is FREE
ARTICLE 6 - ELIGIBILITY
4.1 Drivers Requirements
a) To be eligible for the AMSAG Rookie Series drivers will need to be financial members of AMSAG and have competed in no more than 5 rallies in total as driver.
b) Any driver who has competed in more than 5 rallies will be deemed ineligible
c) Any organised special-stage car rally is to be included when determining rookie eligibility, not just AMSAG events.
d) The Series Co-ordinator has final determination with regard to driver eligibility.
4.2 Co-Driver Requirements
a) To be eligible for the AMSAG Rookie Series co-drivers will need to be financial members of AMSAG and have competed in no more than 5 rallies in total as a co-driver.
b) Any co-driver who has competed in more than 5 rallies will be deemed ineligible
c) Any organised special-stage car rally is to be included when determining rookie eligibility, not just AMSAG events.
d) A co-driver must compete with an eligible driver to score rookie series points
e) The Series Co-ordinator has final determination with regard to co-driver eligibility.
4.3 Registered Driver / Ineligible Co-Drivers
a) a registered driver teamed with an ineligible or unregistered co-driver will score points towards to Rookie Series.
4.4 Ineligible Drivers / Registered Co-Drivers
a) a registered co-driver can only score rookie series points when competing with an eligible and registered driver.
4.5 Vehicles
a) To be eligible for Rookie Series points competitors must use a car from one of the following classes.
AMSAG Classic AMSAG Modern
Class A Class MA
Class B Class MB
Class C Class MC
b) Class U vehicles which are normally-aspirated and under 2L capacity may be accepted by the Series Co-ordinator upon application.
There will be a 'rally-based' prize pool for the winning competitors which we will announce shortly. The winning driver will also receive free entries into all AMSAG events in 2010.
ARTICLE 5 - POINTS
5.1 Points will be allocated at each round of the series on the following basis:
Rookie Series Overall Classification
1st 30 pts
2nd 25 pts
3rd 22 pts
4th 20 pts
5th 18 pts
6th 16 pts
7th 14 pts
8th 13 pts
9th 12 pts
10th 11 pts
Rookie Series Stage Classification (every stage)
1st 3 pts
2nd 2 pts
3rd 1 pts
Completion of entire rally without maximum time penalty
1 Rally = 10 pts
Example: Fast Freddy completes all stages in the rally and finishes 4th Rookie Overall. Freddy wins 2 stages and is 3rd on another stage.
Points scored
Rookie Series Overall Classification
4th 20 pts
Rookie Series Stage Classification
1st 3 pts
1st 3 pts
3rd 1 pts
Completion of entire rally
1 Rally = 10 pts
Total Points Scored: 37pts
We also plan to have a Series Patron at all the events to assist new club members with any aspect of competition.
There is a bit more to it, but basically that it is. Any questions or suggestions feel free to contact me 0432 919800 to discuss.
More to come shortly...

Sounds good to me.
Looking forward to seeing the final regs for it.
When do you think it will be sorted?

Very tempting indeed...
Pity I'm so far away, it would cost me a fortune in petrol just to get down there for the rallies (remember my tow car is my Holden EH!). Add to that I probably won't have a licence for the April event, and that's me out... Maybe next year.

The plan is for the series to run every year. So maybe run the last 2 events this year for experience and you are still eligible for next year.
The way it is structured you can only get 1 or 2 shots at the rookie series- which is good.

I'll definitely be looking into the rallysprint, hopefully I won't have end of year exams, or that they are on before the rallysprint. If I can get down there for that weekend you can count me in.
I'm guessing (hoping) you won't be counting CAMS events for eligibility? It's very unlikely I'll go in more than 5 events total in the next two years, but I figured it'd be best to ask anyway...

If you have competed in say, 4 events before the start of a season, then the first event of that season's Rookie series is your 5th, then you would still be OK to score points for the other two events?

Question Jamie
I've done 3 rallies as a driver, bout to do minidulla and roc but then I'll be doing the rest of the ACT Series, would that affect my eligibility or is it only how many you have done up til the first round of the rookie series.

AMSAG License = AMSAG club membership.
JME - Have you considered whether CAMS Intro rallies and rallysprints count towards the 5 events?

Just a thought .....
In Vic, our "Rookie" grade is for people who have finished no more than 5 events (whereupon they become "Novice").
Seems to work pretty well .... might be worth considering ?
