Rally Aust Elligability

press release from rally aust on car elligability
MEDIA RELEASE - January 30, 2009

Eligibility Requirements for Repco Rally Australia

ORGANISERS of Repco Rally Australia have clarified vehicle eligibility requirements for potential competitors in the 3-6 September event in northern New South Wales.

The following vehicles are eligible to enter Repco Rally Australia –

· World Rally Cars

· Group A Cars (A5, A6, A7, A8). Four-wheel drive cars with a corrected cylinder capacity greater than 2000cc must be in conformity with 2005 Appendix J or later.

· Group A Kit Cars with a corrected cylinder capacity of less than 1600cc on condition that the homologation is accepted by the FIA as eligible for the Championship concerned.

· Group R1, R2 and R3 cars

· Group N cars

· Super 2000 cars (a regionally homologated S2000 car may be used only in WRC events held in that region)

All these are FIA categories and appropriate FIA regulations apply.

A full list of homologated cars is available from the FIA web site by clicking the link below. The letter in the first column of the list indicates the group in which the vehicle is homologated.

http://argent.fia.com/web/fiapublic.nsf/DD7F17ECD4FCE2F8C125752400373D60/$FILE/VoituresHomol_2009.pdf

Further information on homologation is available from Homologations

Homologation for a number of cars, such as the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6, has been extended and therefore they are eligible to compete.

Although some competitors have modified vehicles previously eligible under Group N (for example, Mitsubishi Lancer or Subaru Impreza WRX), these vehicles may be able to compete under Group A (class A8) provided the modifications comply with Group A regulations and the relevant FIA homologation.

FIA regulations can require safety items such as seats to meet particular standards.

The regulations outlining these requirements can be found on the FIA web site in Appendix J to the International Sporting Code. However, the Repco Rally Australia organisers are happy to seek answers to any competitor’s specific questions from the Technical Department or the FIA.

As Repco Rally Australia is a full international event, driver and co-driver will require International licences – available from CAMS - and will also need to ensure that all driving apparel complies with FIA regulations. This includes the HANS device and the organisers point out that other braces are currently not acceptable.

Questions about vehicle may be directed to the Rally Office or the CAMS Technical Department.

Potential competitors are invited to register an Expression of Interest by emailing info@rallyaustralia.com.au.

ENDS

Repco Rally Australia, Round 10 of the 2009 FIA World Rally Championship, is scheduled to run on 3-6 September. Closed-road competition stages will be run in the Tweed and Kyogle Shires, with a rally car service park at Kingscliff and operations headquarters at SALT Resort. Drivers and teams from many countries, including Australia, will participate.

(Oh hell yes!)

The fact they are allowing Group A means that given how close Group A is to PRC, expanded the pool of maybe interested competitors a fair bit.

Anyone have much idea what the entry fee will be?

the entry fee has not been set yet.

we must all keep in mind we may .... may.... have to run the pirelli WRC control tyre in the event.
if you are entered in the "WRC" rally... i think you do... ( all the NZ entries did last year in Rally NZ)..... i think the price was $450 a tyre ?????... but they last forever im told.

Last time i spoke with Gary, they did not have a final decision if all aussie cars were running in the WRC event, or a piggy back.... and if there was going to be a piggy back event for older style cars.

im not sure on all of this.... so dont hold me to it.

If they decide to run with the WRC you definately will have to run;

FIA Pirelli control tyre which I'm sure with our dollar are now over the $500 mark, so that's $6k if you can manage to only run one set per day (which may be possible for a slowish privateer) of coarse without any punctures. (this rule is exempt for 2WD)

Helmet and Hans device are also compulsory now for everyone in the WRC from what I'm told, so that's $1500 for Helmet and $1500 for FIA spec Hans $3k total per competitor or $6k per car as most people don't have one yet.

Obviously Suits, underwear, boots, seats, harnesses, onboard fire bombs, etc all need to be in current FIA spec. Also water tanks that are homologated

Not trying to put a dampner on this at all and in fact it is the opposite, I would love to see as many people as possible getting the chance to compete but it will cost you a minumum of about $15k on the most very basic of budgets more than an ARC from my maths, and that's if your car is close to legal spec and still in homologation.

As I said I hope lots of people can take advantage of having a WRC round here at home and manage to get there stuff together (including budgets) to join in the fun. It really will be an awesome event to experience but do your homework and all the maths properly before you start spending up because it will soon add up.

yep thats what i calculated it to as well,
Still trying to work out if the EVO V is still homologated, its as clear as mud.

And this is where it doesnt make sense to me, An EVO 5 should have the same extensions as an EVO 6 as they are both homologated as the same number A/N 5585, an EVO 6 is just an extension of an EVO 5

http://argent.fia.com/web/fia-public...tures_2009.pdf

further to add according to FIA article 251 all it states is for an evolution of type (ET) (EVO6, EVO6 TME are evolutions (ET) of an EVO 5) the car must comply with a given stage of evolution and thus an evolution must be wholy applied or not at all.

so im still leaning towards it is legal on the fact the base homologation N5585 01/01 is still legal until the end of 09.
