What a fantastic field including Coote, Monkhouse, David, Farrant, Gaines, Batten, Goldsbrough and Stewart. I hope to get down there (from sunny Qld) to check out this enormous field of classics.

I'm out then. What a stupid stupid move.
And I've got a suit, 2 layer proban that was good enough to run RoC twice.

suit link
3.2A suits for $229. Some proban suits comply with that standard too.

They can get ****ed. I've got a perfectly fine suit that exceeds the non-requirement.

This is bizarre.
Have the HRA committee gone mad? First ruining the point of 'their' historic class, and now being more CAMS-like than CAMS is.
I'll still be there, but this has really taken the spring out of my step.

I'm not going to argue the point, that is their decision, but I always thought the "relaxed" atmosphere of the Alpine, that is, competing in complying "jeans & shirts" was one of the great appeals of the event.
Oh well, another one bites the dust.

Don't quite completely panic yet ...... I am raising a couple of queries/clarifications regarding this issue with the organisers & club committee.
I very much doubt this decision was made lightly .... I suspect there may be more to it than meets the eye ? Won't know until I have spoken with Stuart (he is currently on holidays).

If you have a double layer suit, I would expect it to come under the "or superior" part of the suit requirements. That is a single layer suit that is mentioned in the HRA magazine.
Mind you, a double layer suit may be a bit warm in mid-November, [but then again, with global warming it will probably be 14 degrees all weekend!]
