Dimension 1 Oberon AMSAG Rally- Oct 31
I've been getting asked a bit lately about this event so I thought I'd post up some info. Permits came through today, so all is set to go.
The event is 180K competitive with minimal transport. The course has been set by Dave King and myself and includes a few stages we haven't used for some time.
We also have been granted permission to use Vulcan Rd, which is the major 'shire-like' forest road we transported along last year. It's gunna be awesome!! The longest stage is approx 25km's and links the best parts of LongArm and Vulcan SF(misses the humps!) linked by a blast along the main road.
We are also running a new stage out near Porters Retreat which is a belter, starts along a creek, climbs the ridge and then opens up. These roads are all fresh, smooth, fast as the forests have only been recently felled.
Without giving to much away Gingkin, Boggy Swamp, Airstrip, Dingo, Tuglow, Sheepstation, Gunnedoo Rd's are all used by the rally in some configuration and are quality roads. Each stage block is run twice- a short stage 3 times, with 2 of the stages reversed. 13 stages in total.
We were planning a prologue but decided to give it up and concentrate on a longer, harder, tougher one day rally. I think the rally is a real challenge, but not in a 'rough then hump' style which some western events seem to have these days. There are a number of tricky insections and culverts to negotiate, a creek, and some low 'red clay' roads mixed in with generally fast, flowing stages.
Central service is at Shooters Hill- food is provided by Oberon Rotary. There will again be a $10 'easy' no wait required meal at the RSL before the presentation which should start at 8pm.
Documentation will be in the week leading up to the event at scrutineering. We will have a check in/pick up at the Oberon RSL club Friday night and Saturday morning. There will be no scrutineering at the event.
The rally is scheduled to start in Oberon at 9.30am and first car is due home at 4.30.
The event sets up well as a lead in to the Alpine, and many of the faster 2wd competitors are expected to run. The event will be scored in 2 individual categories (open and classic)
We need officials, and I need a few key people to assist in the management of the event. Please, please, please give me a call as I have lost my 2 'helpers' to an unfortunately timed wedding.
We also hit up a few rally businesses to sponsor a stage or speccy point to get some coin to provide for the officials- buy them a hat, some water and food and in some cases accomodation. We do have some fantastic people already onboard with regard to sponsorship, who contribute and enable us to offer a low entry fee (approx $280 depending on factors). We make up banners etc to display on the stages as recognition. Get in contact if you can help out.

I don't think getting Mahonie geed up will be a problem.... Keeping him on 4 wheels for 180Km's competitive.... now that's a big ask....
We should be there in the Galant, if we survive Cowra and Eden...

Regs should be out Monday or thereabouts on the amsag site
Thanks to Brett, Brad, Ashley at Dimension 1 for again coming onboard as the naming sponsor. We hope to have some fun with 'Captain Kickass' at the event- hopefully he can run on most cars and we will have some different trophies etc in keeping with the spirit of the event.
Entry fee is $290.
Competitive Km's is 180.
I challenge anyone to find an event which is better value for money.
If you are a new AMSAG competitor we will throw in club membership for 2010. Membership is $50 (maybe $70 for a family- need to check). With Eden offering the same deal that is almost 10 events for $50!!!
There has been much talk of the roads in the Western Region being rough. Oberon doesn't have this issue at present. The majority of the rally will be run on freshly graded roads in recently logged forest, including a number of 'shire-like' forest roads. We have permission to run Vulcan Rd- WOOT!! There are very few humps, nothing severe... it's not a rough rally.
We also have a 'wet weather' plan- revised course. This event ran last year when many events would have been canned. I will do everything I can to run the event- rain, hail or shine. Unless forestry taps me on the shoulder and withdraws the permit- the event will run. Forestry operations are low in the areas we are using, we are away from haulage routes. We have a good relationship with the key people up there and we will pay the road damage.
If you can help out give me a call- 0432 919800. Need helpers Friday and Sunday as well for setup/pull down. If you a competing it's OK- there is heaps to be done away from the stages.
If you need a co-driver call Kate Murphy.
If you have a rally car you aren't using that weekend and would like it crashed call Tom Clarke or Brett Kuhner.
If you want to borrow my car, it's already lent out.
If you want accomo the Big Trout or Highlander are both great.
If you an amateur photographer and want the stage maps- forget it.
If you want to be scrutineered on the morning of the event- forget that as well.

I was going to drive but the minor tweaks to Drew's Sigma seem easier than what I have to do to the Lancer so very good chance I'll be navving at this one. Got a party in Sydney I have to be back for Saturday night, but should be able to fit everything in no dramas.
Well done Jme on another bargain event.

I am definitely having a run at this event. Been hanging for it after just getting the car fixed after the Appliances Stages rally in the ACT>
Plus I should give my Nav the chance to get the Rookies Co-Driver.

Oberon
Jamie,
Its a case of: can I get the car rego'd in time......
Tomorrow and the next few days are a bit of a work fest..
new battery box to go in, harnesses to fit (I think I need longer eye bolts all round and the little reinforcing plates for the crotch belts), front sway bar the list goes on, but the light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer.
oooh then there is the issue of a co-driver.....
Greg
