Buladelah Hillclimb N.S.W - Myall Lakes Motorsport Club

Hi everyone,

I am not a member of the Myall Lakes Motor sport club, but i am trying to help them out by getting the word out there about a fantastic event that i was hoping to have entered in this weekend, but found it was cancelled through lack of entries.

Many of our members may remember driving through the Buladelah mountains when it used to be the old Highway before the new Bypass came in.

Well the Myall Lakes Motor sport club has been given permission to use a 1km section of the old mountain road for a controlled
hill climb event.
Which they have been holding twice a year.

The club has had a problem with their web site, and so the word hasnt been able to get out there, and they have had to cancel the event for this period.
But i am hoping to raise peoples awareness and get loads of Spectators and Entrants for the next event in March.

They have another event planned for March, and its planned to be held over 2 days

At this stage the 2 days will involve a Show and Shine, and stalls.
and the Hill climb race event itself, so it should be a great weekend.

They are a not for profit organisation and all money is to cover the $10, 000 that is needed to run the event, after Council fees, Poilce, Ambulance,
hire of spectator barriers etc...

But if they can get lots of spectators to come along and show support that would be great too!!

They have recently had the council upgrade the road, and cleared more spectator areas.
And upgrade a nice camping area down on the river, so anyone interesed in spending the 2 days can camp and enjoy the company of other drivers and enthusists.

Also to enter your car,
If it is Regoed, you need a Helmet, Fire Extinguisher, a second means to keep your bonnet shut (E.g a belt or strap acroos your bonnet)
and a Blue triangle to inticate you battery position.

***at this point unless Council changes their rule,
You DO NOT need a Roll cage

Your car does not need to be registered to enter the event though!!

So please everyone spread the word and create some interest as this is a fantastic event

Anyone that would be interested in entering, coming for a look,
or if you have a business and would like some advertising by entering a stall,
or donating some funds for sponsorship toward the event and
getting your company logo plastered all over the place as advertising

this event will be attended by every motor sport club in the State, and attracts loads of spectators!

please forward your interest to
Roscoe Jones

The Clubs website

They also hold State Khanacross and rally events

And some Footage i found on Youtube of the event
not the best but gives you an idea of the 3 lane wide rolling course..

thank you all
Daniel

P.S for those who are interested but not sure where Buladelah is, its an hour north of Newcastle

have run it in a underpowered car and a moderate powered one, underpowered its boring but give our car a bit more power and its hold you breath all the way and its FAST and flows nicely you just keep changing up gears, watch the first? right hander it changes camber on the outside half way through, the armco has caught a few people and its a tow job at the speeds you are doing.
did I say its FAST. Boys got 4th in their 6 cyl VL and VK.

Cousins son reckons he hit 200 in his A9X.

Its one of those places you have to do at least once.

Ian G. has some part of a clue
Looks interesting,i'll try and get down and have a look,i hope it has a long term future but i doubt it if the KPH speeds quoted are correct. 40 Bends at Lithgow was also a section of the old H/way and a great Hillclimb. Rally directors used to use it as a Realignment, sometimes in transport sections,it used to wipe out half the field.

Fastest cars recorded (over the finish line) up the 1km track over the 4 years that Westlakes Automobile Club ran the event were :

Open wheeler - Peter Gumley in his SCV - 28.367sec @ 191km/h
Closed car - Adam Barnes in his Gemini Coupe - 32.242sec @ 168km/h

From memory Dave it had a steep climb just before the finish and the corners seem to tighten and that wiped off a lot of speed, well it did for us (near stock commodores). My sons speed (off the results was 113km/h ) was about the change 2nd to 3rd (XU-1 close ratio box) but ran most in 3rd and in hindsight should have just revved the hell out of it in 3rd as it didnt have the guts to accelerate in 4th but hey he was a junior then and he had never been in 4th gear before on a track.

I just wanted to say its a course people should do at least once, Im glad I did, Not here to debate what my cousin claimed, The car won the Australian hill climb title (improved production) twice and matched a V8 supercar in a sprint down conrod, I had no reason to doubt his claim.

Anyway watch the video posted and at the end there are some links to somone running the course and make your own mind up. its roughly the same speed as my son and about 8 seconds off the A9X

Sorry Brian, I wasn't posting in reply to your post (although on reflection it may seem like I was), instead I was providing Ian with some stats about the speeds reached at the top of the hill.

I whole-heartedly agree that it is a terrific track and if people have the opportunity to, they should give it a run

Mark Primmer crossed the line backwards in his F Libre at 236km when Dial Before You Dig sponsored the event but we guessed that there was an issue with the speed trap, best we ever got out of our 1600sss was 129km from memory, for a hillclimb its pretty good.

Some of us live 20km north of the mountains and have to run into Buladehlah to buy 98 octane fuel, guess which way I go.

Nothing like a bit of retrospective publicity.

As i said im not a member of the club, or associated in anyway.
And i wasnt in anyway involved in the organisation of the event.

Yes I agree the lack of proactivity in getting the word out there was disappointing.
I searched online for details for 2 days, trying to find out about the event, or how to contact the club, and only managed to find old local Newspaper stories. And tracked down the club Rep through them.

So now Im just trying to raise awareness for future events.

Great to hear from some guys that are in the area, and especially that have driven in the event before.

And it would be great for you to spread the word that bodies are needed if they have an interest in cars and motor sport.

Ross told me they would need a Minimum of 180 cars to enter the event,
They had 14........

Plenty of spots available!

Cheers guys

Dan

Need 180 cars and had 14 entries, unless your figures are wrong someone needs to have a look at costs 180 entries these days is rather large.

Maybe the 180 covered the show 'n shine as well? 180 for a hillclimb alone is a big feild...

At an average of 1 car per minute, it would take 3 hours for one run through, and that doesn't take into account the time lost with the return run.

180 can't be right as i covered the event in March this year and there was probably 40 cars entered in the actual hillclimb. I'm sure the one that's been canceled was part of the NSW hillclimb championship so it's weird that there is less entries for it than the earlier event.
