CAMS Spill motion - Big News
Victorian state council has moved for a full vote of no confidence in CAMS board - CEO - -the lot.
BIG NEWS.
Some relevant MINUTES
MEETING OF THE VICTORIAN SPORT & CLUB DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL HELD ON TUESDAY, 20TH OCTOBER 2009 AT 8PM
8.12 Board of CAMS – Angus Black
Angus Black reported that the Board was currently dealing with a lot of “housekeeping” issues. Commission chairs have been re-appointed with all remaining the same except for the Australian Officials Commission, to which Phillip Livingstone has been appointed Chairman.
Delegations have been renewed to ANDRA, NASR and the AKA. Mr Black also reported on the new system for Event Assessments whereby a “Team Assessment” can take place. This allows an Event Assessor who may not have the appropriate qualification for a particular role to work with an “expert” in that field, and jointly assess an official on that basis.
A discussion was then held regarding the policy of the Board to not release minutes of its meetings, and rather provide a statement on resolutions. The following motion was moved:
“That the Victorian Sport & Club Development Council requests formal advice from CAMS’ legal advisors on what process is available by which the Sport & Club Development Council can refer to the Australian Sports Commission its concerns about particular actions by the Board including (but not limited to) the intention to suppress publication of records of Board meetings.”
XXX moved the following motion:
“That the Victorian Sport & Club Development Council calls for a total spill of the entire CAMS Board due to their collective inability to adequately engage their clientele, failure to adequately manage the brief of the sport, or to understand the industry in such a way as to advance motor sport.”
Votes: 11 for, 6 against, 2 abstentions.
So there is a meeting in Melbourne tomorrow night - I understand and Papadopolous will be there, etc. And 400 attendees are expected.
I always knew those victorians had a clue or two.

So the Vic state exec has no confidence in the board
the previous NSWRAP had no confidence in the State exec or ARCOM and got rolled, wonder what will happen to the state exec in VIC can they be rolled

Full credit to the Vic State Council for having the balls to do what needs to be done.
A State Council is basically impossible to 'roll', as I understand it. Whether the State Exec cops it, is another matter - and that's assuming the motion is unsuccessful - but in theory the Exec can be replaced with a like-minded one.
Interesting times ahead. At the very least, this is a huge statement of dissatisfaction from a group that actually has _some_ power over the board. If the board survive, they'd better hope its not on a technicality because it will come again.
I wonder if the plethora of Ladder Climbers who are on the various State councils, might find it worthwhile to question their loyalties at this point in time?
I also wonder if we might see some sacrifices from the board today, in an attempt to keep the greater power base intact?

This was a motion of the full State Council, not just the SCE. The SC is of course elected by the Clubs, so I don't think it can be "rolled" by the Board, the Executive is elected by the State Council.
It's actually another step in a saga that has been going for a while now - as I understand it, some previous motions put to the Board by SC were basically just ignored, so the SC has "upped the ante", it seems.

Dave is correct.
This motion is from the Council Members, not the Exec. Rolling the exec will not make it go away as a new Exec will be elected by club delegates of the same Council.
Its going to be long night.
After getting home at 5.00am from the last round of the VCRS yesterday morning I might need to sneak in a nap at work I think.

Keep the news flowing to us folks in NSW/ACT. Would love to be a fly on the wall in Victoria right now. Wow, your State Council meetings must be exciting to be a part of!

It makes me wonder what the NSW ones must be like also... I suspect nowhere near as interesting, though perhaps if a few more of us rattled the cages a bit down here (at grass roots), we could potentially make things a little more interesting.
Then again, I'm a HRA member. I think I'm represented by the Victorians! Go you good things!

Indeed...
But if you allow your non-Vic based clubs to sit on their hands, then its that much easier for "the system" to simply dismiss the Vic SC motion as the work of 'trouble makers'.
This is why CAMS has been so hard to fix - its damn near impossible for the majority of the clubs in any state to demand change.
Full credit to the Victorians for getting their act together.
