Carsales.com.au has a big warning about this very thing whenever you log in to check/ make/ delete your advert. Been going for a couple of months. A guy I work with had them try it on for his TT he was selling in October.

Ebay is a haven for scammers and those off loading stolen goods, while paypal offers buyer protection. I don't see how a payment gateway can be to blame, when they actually offer very good insurance against dodgy operators. Not only those out to scam people, but people who promise goods and take weeks to deliver.

Ebay owns paypal, so they get to charge you fees for selling and then more fees for collecting payment, there's your scam...
edit: I've received dozens of these scam emails, generally reply with a simple "get *****ed", played one guy for a few weeks, ended up chatting to him on msn til he got the ****s with me and blocked me.

Yes, that I realise. And ebay developed paypal so they could offer some protection from the scammers. A lot easier to offer insurance on items when you control the payment gateway.
Feebay is a scam, but what other options do we have? oztion, now that is a joke of a site!

Thing is, PayPal might have some protection from scammers for buyers (ONLY if the seller sends it via registered post...), but it's not as great for sellers. Ask my Dad about it, you'll be there for hours...
That and the fact that they say you MUST offer PayPal as a payment method - if they only charged you for one of the two I wouldn't have a problem but it's blatant double dipping on fees.
It's a pity there are no other options out there though...

I think I might've been scammed... I brought a car off ebay today, and the title description said it was an "incomplete project"

We got hit with this also, twice, in one day, we told the guy to get lost.
When we got the email that they have 'overpaid' and if we just send the overpayment back then the full funds will clear and we'd get the selling amount, knowing I was looking at fraud, (ie; a huge explanation that the fund area for shipping and werent suppose to come to youblah f^cking Blah).
Ive been trying to figure out how to scam them back and ge thtme to send me money before I refund their moneydue to costs. Some guy did that and they actually did it.
Anyone who sends out money for their own cars cost before they are even paid, dare I say it, needs the lesson to teach them. As they say in the US; He get got good.
I like it when they send a fake paypal email hoping you'll clikc on their link and sign in therby giving them your password etc on their fake paypal webapage, we always type things like F#cuk Off Scammer into the password. Which only they will see when they think they scammed another.
The fact your son got done is why they keep doing it, it keeps working.
By the way, I have a Nigerian bank manager friend who needs to export 456Kabillion dollars after the collpase of cumminism in Cobar, but due to the expense of moving so much money, if you just send $4500 immediatley he would like to use your account to send the money to..... and you get to keep 25%.....

the earlier link was incorrect... it should have been Welcome to 419Eater ...
I have a few of scambaiting profiles, Christopher Skase, Alby Mangles, and my favourite, Lightning McQueen...
If you want them to send you money, the only way is to tell them you need their help to cover some sort of application fee... tell them you work for a church and don't get paid a salary, only have your expenses covered, and you can not ask the church to pay for the finance application fee...
mostly you should use the tool on 419eater.com to create a fake Western Union payment... and then create a 1000 question security questionaire that they have to fill out to access the fake payment... all good...
Cheers,
Daewoo
P.S. Marcus, do you hate people who hate people who try and scam people trying to sell Dirty-Cheater-Lack-of-Talent-hiding-cars???

I have my Falcon that I have been trying to sell on allclassifieds and have had a number of attempts from people trying to scam me - including the 'marine engineer that is at sea in bad weather'!
I've also had this private message sent to me on this very website!
Hi mate,
I'm currently looking for a ute like the one you have for sale. However I live in SA, so I was wondering if you had any photos of the engine bay and interior and what ever else you can tell me about the car.
If possible can you email your response to **********@yahoo.com as i can't use this forum at work.
Cheers *****
Not 100% sure if was an attempted scam or not but it was from someone who has been on this forum for over a year with no posts in any threads.
I did politely respond to the message asking if it was a scam and have not received any response!!!
