as daewoo mentioned, if you have the time, and set up a gmail or yahoo email account so the scammers can't get info on you, and go to Welcome to the 419 Eater for tips and tricks on playing those scammers at their own game.

I have just achieved my first piggy bank for shutting down a scammers bank account!

please do NOT tell the scammers you are playing them, even at the end of it all (resist the tempation!).
please do NOT give the scammers tips on what they did wrong in their emails (i know this is a scam because...), it will just help them in their next scam on the next person, who may not be a cluey as you

very addictive is scambaiting. there's some funny stuff on there

Hi mate,

I'm currently looking for a ute like the one you have for sale. However I live in SA, so I was wondering if you had any photos of the engine bay and interior and what ever else you can tell me about the car.

If possible can you email your response to **********@yahoo.com as i can't use this forum at work.

Cheers *****

Not 100% sure if was an attempted scam or not but it was from someone who has been on this forum for over a year with no posts in any threads.
I did politely respond to the message asking if it was a scam and have not received any response!!!
Hi Geoff, sounds a bit scammy with the yahoo account. maybe lead them along for a bit and see what happens?

then again, i use a gmail account for both my real email, and another for my scambaiting, so it may be legit.

the bit about them being a forum member for a year lends some weight, they haven't just joined to PM you by the sounds of that...

tread carefully, and there's always help on here or 419eater

Damian

There's nothing in the message to suggest he might be trying to scam you - there's quite a few workplaces with firewalls for forums and he's made a perfectly reasonable and logical request. If I'd sent what he sent (and I have at various times in the past) and got a response asking me if I was a scammer, I'd think you were paranoid or had some other issue and you wouldn't get any more interest from me.
