Penrose state forest

Has anyone ever tried or put a rally together in the penrose state forest around Marulan.

Just thought i'd ask as I drove past there.

Lizzy has. From memory it is full of car hating wombats, and there were issues with Forestry or Police (I can't remember which).

There were plenty of rallies based there back in the day (early '80's)! Used to get fuel from the old BP (or was it something else?) garage (pre-freeway as it is now) at Paddys River (garage now long gone). My memory is a little hazy on the status of the events and I couldn't be arsed going to try and find any old route instructions or stuff at the moment, however IIRC most events there back then were generally your lower status (such as Group 7 or clubbie) type events due to the limited area and thus usually shorter comp distances. There may have been Clubmans and States that used Penrose... just don't remember any though

Forgive me, but it should also be noted that search is your friend.. as Penrose State Forest has also been discussed as recently as just a month ago in these pages just here.

However I think you may be out by about a generation - I recall competing in Penrose in 1968 . I will refrain from posting a photo of my EJ Holden lest kiddies run screaming from the room, chooks stop laying, a plague of grasshoppers arrive, etc

It has since dawned on me that it was probably the very first rally run in NSW that was fully route-charted (in miles!) The rally was directed by John Bryson, who subsequently achieved fame navigating for some Scots blow-in named Cowan in Southern Cross rallies.

Arr Penrose, they were the days, I used to have rallys there Friday nights Saturday nights and sundays.
