I just found another loophole. " The tachometer" would be the one fitted to the car, which does not have to be correctly calibrated. The rule implies that the use of any other tachometer is not permitted. So if you're a bit loud, just bodge the tacho inputs (easy on an aftermarket one with switches for 4/6/8cyl engines), or don't have one at all and use shift lights. Or put a switch on the input signal and say it's not working. Idiots.
Of course, it should read "as determined by a tachometer".
My point is that it's just another example of a rule written by someone who thinks that they know what they want to say, but can't. The CAMS Manual's chockas with them.

I'm not so fussed about the rules although engine restrictions of any kind are beyond me, it's the BS of A-A timing and not being able to rejoin that annoys me (at grass roots level - it's all part of the sport for the elite IMHO). I'm also a fan of low cost, 2S licence, showroom class rallying - to get new blood being competative with each other at low cost - so FIX THE BLOODY REGO SCHEME!!!

But we will let the Super taxis use composite materials so as not to cause injury and facilitate easier repairs.
What. like running into a tree, or putting it in a ditch..

BS
There's a book full of BS - its called the CAMS motorsport manual 2010. open any page at random & you'll find numerous examples.

there's one rule that is my pet. its not pointless or BS, but its a favourite of mine. its the one that says that you can drill 'holes for fasteners' in the bodywork of your car. but it never says there have to be fasteners in them.
I loooooove that rule.
I also love any rule of which I can make a mockery by puting Bob Blandford in the boot.

There is of course a reason why the Cams manual is full of BS,it came from Europe via cut and paste therefore the only things we can directly blame on Cams is when they cut the Formula one rules and pasted them into the Super taxi's,along with Cutting and pasting the EU Noise Pollution and Road safety standards into the Rally section.
Not to forget the Mix up of cut and paste for an application for membership of the Swiss Banking oversight commitee that became the Rally and Speed events licence application forms.
PS your Licence is not lost it is just delayed in Brussels due to a go slow by the French and Germans arguing over juristiction again and whether to allow those Swiss to hog all the bank holidays yet one more time.
Almost forgot will someone please tell the cams office staff to pay the bill at the Post Office they are running out of room to store the Application forms and Event permits.

Almost every rule for rallying is stupid, because they are all "worlds best practice" ie. they just copy the FIA regs, so they don't have to think, or be seen to take on risk.
In eleventy million years (or maybe 50), how many drivers have made the step up to international competition??? how many of that one would have been disadvantaged if they started in Australia in 'Australian Spec Cars', and then changed to a FIA Spec car when they made it to the international stage???
Throwing away expensive FIA homologated parts in exchange for more freedoms would massively reduce the cost of building and running a car... and allow some good old Aussie ingenuity to come through...

I've got one.
If you renew your licence in December, you get a manual for the year in which you renewed.
Why would they not send you out the following years manual. About the only thing it is good for is to use as a door chock.

ala Rally America Open Regs...
Best set of regs on the planet. Well through out, sensible, with sufficient freedoms, but with a strong (but not necessarily expensive) focus on safety.
Rally America was started in America when a bunch of competitors got sick of the FIA delegate ran national championship, and made their own. That very much reflects in their regs. Grab a copy and have a read.

Clothing regulations. There is utterly NO sense as to why state events must have all the kit and kaboodle. Why do we require suits and all the other nonsense? No one has justified this from the ONLY appropriate POV - safety. There is absolutly no reason why the standard long sleeves and jeans are not fine. Just one of those things that makes the cost add up.
Yet on the same roads in the same car but a different event I am fine at clubman level?
Hell, I dont understand why you need suits at ARC but eh.
