What about this as a service vehicle ??
Looking for a new service vehicle ??
Need 4WD and V8 power ?
Have a look at Holden's effort to usurp the Subaru Outback and Ford Territory...the new Adventra.

The good old "change the grille and front lights configuration and call it a different model" still being successfully used by Holden up until a few years ago (the recent Berlinas spring to mind).
It looks like this is a chevy though, have a look at the badge in the middle of the grille.
Sorry, but that's a pet hate of mine...

Agreed, and I did note the badge. What makes the chev better than the holden, apart from (typically) 42 cubic inches?

It's obviously got a chev engine in it, which gives those w8nkers the right to put the bowtie on the grille (NOT). They should be made to repeat after me "The engine does not the vehicle make..."

Nothing makes a Chev better than a Holden - least of all 42ci. The 350 Chev is turning out to be a major disaster with oil consumption, spun bearings, piston slap, broken ring lands and who knows what else.
Sure they make big kilowatts, but they make it high in the rev range and are down on low end torque, which is what a V8 is supposed to be all about. If I wanted something that had grunt up high I'd buy a turbo-sneezer of some variety.
I'm perfectly happy with my 308 with suitable mods by HSV.
The only good thing about the 350 chev motor is the alloy block.
The best thing Holden did in conjunction with Chev was the Suburban - 6.5 litres of turbocharged diesel V8... Seat 9 in comfort and still have room for all the stuff in the back. I love 'em. They are so environmentally conscious!

Its a good question. The Torana V8 was successful as where the commodes that followed. It was a good strong engine (even if it did have a oldsmobile firing order). But on the other side the small block chev was and is the weapon of choice for Drag racers and sport sedans. Both tried and proven units, although I think the few cubes you mention and the American involvement in the chev puts it in front if you want to go fast.
The overlander's were not made by Holden but a small private factory on Canterbury Rd Bayswater. That one has been modified more that the engine change and the swapped nose cone- the fibreglass flares look crappy just for a start. They always had a goodly selection of them parked out the front as we drove past on the way to Grandma's for an evening of extreme boredom. I remember it well......groan.
PS They did produce a Statesman version (rare) that Wheels did a write up on. Most where Utes and Wagons Im pretty sure they did (very) few sedans but NOT a wagon with ugly flares, a statesman grill, and a Chev!!

I can remember reading an article which said they were done in Tassie? Oh well. They could do any, but mainly wagons, Sandman panel vans and utes. I think they had those small rubber flares?
Good compromise though.

Biggest drama with the old Holden boat anchor is head sealing, I believe.
Old Chev boat anchor also has a million years of development and a HUGE range of after-market performance parts in its favour.

Overlander
The Overlander was built in Tassie and were mainly utes with a few panelvans and wagons built as well. I think most had the 308 although I remember reading about 1 with a 350 in it. There was also an HZ Statesman built with the WB front which was used in the Australian, then Wynn's, Safari for what seemed like 10 years. They were built in the very early 1980's before the likes of the Pajero redifined the Australian 4wd market place.
