Fact is that you and I might be interested in an Evo being driven well, but most of the population isn't and they are even less interested in seeing 70 of them being driven averagely. They probably aren't too interested in old Porsches either.
But they will queue for miles to see and hear an A9X, a VB V8 Commodore, an XB coupe or a BDA Escort. Then the event becomes a spectacle, it gets Govt support and the whingers get nowhere.
I don't know if that is the potential promoter's logic but, if it is, it would be hypocritical for them to allow the Thoroughbred Tour cars to be anything other than Classics too.

Totally agree - I had quite a few comments made to me about the last Classic Adelaide being "boring" due to the number of modern cars ( and Porsches ) however the reality is that they had to bring the moderns in to get the numbers to make it viable ... the issue that worries me though is "Are there enough Classic Tarmac cars to support these events to make them viable ?" ... as jyj003 pointed out Rally Tas is going back to Classic - great ! There are probably 7 Tarmac rallies in Australia now including CA ... I am probably in the boat of a lot of Classic Tarmac guys - we can only afford to do one or two events a year therefore am thinking it'll be hard to support all of these events ... Oh well - we've done Classic Adelaide most years since 2000 so if its two events for me then it'll probably be Adelaide and Rally Tas !
Better get the car finished !

Not sure I'll get out of this one alive but I think 80% of the cars in tarmac or gravel events are boring. It doesn't matter if they are clasic or modern
Love the cars that the driver drives at 11/10ths or puts on a bit of a show. Also love anything really rare exotic or special in some way
8/10ths driving is pretty average to watch if you want spectators 11/10ths is the way

asking for bites? bait accepted...
to drive at 11/10ths you need a car you're not worried about wiping out. Most classics are exactly that - classics, and the owners aren't too keen on smashing them for the spectators. I'd be happy to drive my baby at 11/10ths if i knew the spectators on the stage where i throw it off the road will source the parts needed and also help pay for the repairs
at certain "safe" spectator points however, i'm keen to give it a bit of oversteer and more throttle than required
and what is exotic or special to you may not be to the person standing next to you? A Celica for example
caught me hook, line and sinker?

No such thing as 11/10ths, (or 110%)!
Anyway, I assume you're not actually competing in one of these 'driven at 80%' boring cars - because it does not feel 'boring' sat in one!

So....how often do you drive at "11/10ths"?

11/10ths = overdriving the car.

Impressing spectators is secondary to finishing the event in the fastest time.

Seeing as I am building an Escort to the relevant CAMS regs in order to compete in the event I just want it to run again!!!!!!!!!!!!
Although I do not really enjoy the modern cars (from a spectating viewpoint...pop pop bang bang pop) if they help the event survive then the more the merrier!!
Would be handy to have confirmation as to which regs it will be run under though......
