Classic Adelaide

Does anybody have any information as to the future of this fantastic event? I have been trying to find out if the rumoured takeover/buy-out ever happened.

Perhaps no one is game take it on lest they become liable for the 2009 Permit fees that are owed?

I haven't heard anything definate, but rumours are this year is too late to get organised, and it may be taken over by somebody for next year

maybe we should get a petition organised and send in to Motor Sports Board here in SA asking them to take it over, benefits to the State, etc.

SDCC ran the Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally a month ago, and there's a bit of a rumour that if Classic Adelaide doesn't take place anymore that this event will take it's place, and may be expanded to 5 days.

only a RUMOUR - please don't quote this as gospel

my aim has always been to compete in Classic Adelaide (I bought my car specifically for it), so I for one hope it gets back up, but then again AHTR was an awesome event, very well run, so I'd be happy if that took it's place. Doesn't have the history, but maybe that's not such a bad thing? Although, motorsport fans the world over seem to know the Calssic, so its loss would be a shame

The former promoter is in liquidation.
It is highly unlikely that the event will run in 2010 but it will run in 2011.
The event has always had and I am led to believe will continue to have the support of the Motor Sports Board.
No doubt there will be a formal announcement soon.
Whether the event will still include a modern category and permit 4wd turbos or revert to solely classics and non-4wd turbo early modern I couldn't say.

His apartment and the Classic Adelaide office were 2 doors up from my workplace.

A news crew found him, and as in other topics, his car and property are up for sale.
Ventured to somewhere in Victoria from memory.

MWP has some part of a clue
A lot of the remaining Classic Adelaide gear (timing gear, bunting, etc) was sold off to Rally SA.

For Classic Adelaide to be run again the event will pretty much need to be built up from scratch
Lets just hope someone steps up and runs it again one day.

Can I guess ?

If I did have a guess I'd say Octagon will be bidding for it.

If Classic doesnt come back, the Southern Tarmac Rally will (in a way) take its place.
It wont be as much of a draw card for the expensive international/touring entries, but itll keep the tarmac rally guys happy.

I am limited in what I can say but I am confident that
1. Classic Adelaide will run in 2011 as a separate event to AHTR
2. It will not be AASA sanctioned
3. Octagon will not be the promoter
4. The equipment purchased from the liquidator will be available for Classic Adelaide
I wouldn't be too concerned about internationals. The Motor Sports Board would certainly want the event to attract international entries but not if, as has happened in past events, the event pays for most of those entries.
In the meantime, if you own or are building a Classic tarmac car, Rally Tas in February will now be a Classic event only.

Thanks Trex.

While I have peoples attention (and seeing as this is my thread anyway), I wish to digress a little.....

Interpreting CAMS regs is not easy and getting information about those regs from CAMS is like selling ice to eskimos - IMPOSSIBLE .

I would be very interested to talk to other Mk1 Escort competitors in the past Classic Adelaide events to discuss cars and what they have done to theirs. I have pretty much got everything sorted or decided but would be nice to double check before the cutter comes to play! Anybody know if they are on the forums or which clubs they are members of (I am yet to decide on a club)?
