How many forum users does it take to change a lightbulb???
(Shamelessly stolen from Secoh from PF, who equally shamelessly stole it from Overclockers.com.au - my apologies to those who have seen this on PF already)
1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed
14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently
7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs
27 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs
53 to flame the spell checkers
41 to correct spelling/grammar flames
6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ...
another 6 to condemn those 6 as anal-retentive
2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"
15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct
156 to email the moderators complaining that they are in violation of their "acceptable use policy"
109 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum
111 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum
306 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty
27 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs
14 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's
12 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy
4 to suggest that posters request the light bulb FAQ
44 to ask what is a "FAQ"
4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"
143 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"
1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again

cant help myself
did you know that the lightbulbs sold in Australia are all made by one company? so you might as well buy the cheapest ones you can find!
and those $20 funky ones that use less electricity die just as often as the 60c ones so you might as well not bother.
flame away.... (I'm not getting out of the car any faster!)

Lightweight, you're an idiot. Ignoring the plethora of available arguments about how you can visibly SEE the difference a lot of the time, I'll just counter you with one word:
Importation.

A copied Spac's posting to the VicRally eGroup, just for a laugh.
In response, it would seem that a few additional "assistant bulb changers" are also required :
You forgot the 10 old farts who remember when light bulbs used to
last longer and so seldom needed to be changed, and even then it was
the owner not the service crew that changed them!
34 saying that the current infrastructure can't support light bulbs and we
should all be restricted to candles.
13 reminiscing about how much better things were when all we had was
sunlight
19 of the opinion that we are all living in the past and clustered LED pods
are what we should be working towards
27 saying there should also be an introductory level for light bulb changing
where only low wattage bulbs not exceeding a few candlepower are used by
those new to competing.
19 believing an Osram only series could phillip a lower (down light ) level.

4 to post that the best light globe in the world is only as the switch which turns it on and then follow up with 500 different wiring solutions.

Hagar, what about the 7 people who have to tell us that they used to change more light bulbs, in less time and never ever crashed them? And that any time any of us change a lightbulb well nowdays, its because we have better ladders, and lower ceilings.

(This was on an email list I am on as well, some other replies include :- )
17 to condemn everyone else on the forum for having an opinion
3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group
33 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"
19 to quote the "Me too's" to say "Me three"
... and another 400 to say "LOL".
10 to ask what is the colour and temp of the light bulb?
45 saying - haven't I read this somewhere before? Do you have copyright permission to post it? Isn't it plagiarism to post it here?
Don't forget the poster that insists that a light bulb does not attract moths but is in fact a 'babe magnet'.
1 person saying “hey I'm doing a term paper on lightbulbs and I would like to know everything you know.”
400 post complete and utter nonsense unrelated to lightbulbs
85 complain that the 15k sized picture of the light bulb is too large for their modems

Viva le Difference
Spac, I defy anyone to pick the difference between a Woolworths and an Osram (or other 'name' brand) of the same wattage.
Some idiots go faster (and win more trophies) than others.

Some idiots do it with their own money, not their "retired supermodel girlfriend's" money, or their driver's.
How hard do you want to push this Cordia Boy?
Are you seriously claiming that they even risk incurring the wraith of the ACCC by lying about the country of origin? Or is this factory of which you speak a REALLY big one that somehow connects Holland, China and Malaysia*?
*Being the three countries accredited with being the country of manufacture of the three light globes in the workshop here at work.
Oh, and we've got a genuine Mazda brand fluro tube at home.
I shudder to think of how old it is, and how much PCB its leaking, but some things are worth the sacrifice!

Oh no! A rotary powered fluro tube!
Hope it doesn't drink as much water as the rx-7!

Also add as many people who replied with a net-ism (LOL, PITA, ROFLMAO, PMPFLSH ~ I made that last one up, because I could: "piss my pants from laughing so hard") who reply and ask why the abbreviation meant.
Plus a liberal assortment or misplaced replies.
Plus at least 3 new threads when newbie's try to post a reply and miss.
One moderator to say something, and a hundred members to flame him for being a nazi.
Spac, can you just go on ebay and buy all those Mazda bulbs, they piss me off when I go searching there. I already have to be careful, there is some photogrpher guy with the surname "Weber" who does male "artistic" photos... (homo style)

Girlie, we were never talking about light globes. The use of the light globe metaphor is a very common one, which I'd expected most people were familiar and comfortable with.
My post was digressing from the original topic of forums though, if that's what you were asking.
*Can't believe I didn't bite on that on Friday.

But we do have better ladders. And lower ceilings. And improved circuitry.
And think of the technology advances in lighting in the last 20 years... Xenon and Halogen bulbs, HID lighting, those little downlight globes that are realy popular and those lightglobes that are meant to last a really long time and use heaps less power, cause theyre like a flouro in a globe or sumfin...*
