Jerrabomberra Club Hotel Rallysprint 2004
Hi.
Just thought I'd let people know of an upcoming event in the works, in the Canberra region.
We're still waiting for official permission so this is all provisional....but Tamsey and I -with the support of the LCCC- are organising a rallysprint, hopefully, for the 21 August 2004. while I hear August 7th is more likely to be Election Day no doubt Murphy's Law will kick in and have it on the day of the Rallysprint just to make life harder as everyone has to go and vote as well...but I digress This is one week before the Sydney ARC Round so it should be a good (and cheap) shakedown and test for any one entering into that round.
The pacenoted Rallysprint will be out at Sparrow's Block which is just over 10km from the outskirts of Queanbeyan when heading towards Bungendore. It got graded in some parts so it should be better than when we went out and had a recce around it.
Stage-wise, two separate stages repeated three times. SS1, 3, 5 is maxed out to the maximum 8km stage length possible. About 60% of this stage will be around the firebreak around the outside of the stage so it should be quite fast stuff, especially with wide roads. There will also be two spectator points on this stage, one of them should be viewable from the service park - which is when the cars start. The second spectator point is Turn Hard Right from speed which should be an interesting corner.
The second stages: SS2, 4, 6, is about 7.5km in length and is a bit twistier. In fact some of it reminds me of Stage 3 at Bathurst.
Liaisons are about 300m, 1km, 300m and at no time is a rally car on the public road.
The finish venue will be Jerrabomberra pub which is situated on the way back in to Canberra.
All in all, it should be a nice, compact, cheap event on some new roads yet still close to Canberra.
000, 00, 0, Sweep and Recovery positions are pretty much taken I'm afraid.
I'll release more details when necessary and confirmed. Just put it on your calender.
Thanks,
Mark Sessions

Yay Mark, Tamsey and the LCCC. Hope it works out for you, and look forward to hearing some more detail about this event.

Congratulations on putting the work in. Was that you hooning (I mean driving sedately) around Sparrows yesterday? Dust on the Kings Highway may be a problem if we get no rain as there was dust coming across the Highway yesterday.
Only problem may be that the 21st August is a NSW Novice Series (and Clubman?) round.
If you need a hand prior to the day let me know. I think I have some maps of Sparrows if they are of use. Also some of the more mature (read older) LCCC members should have road books for Sparrows including the fire break. I think the fire brake section was were Peter Frew did his infamous 6 rolls and a pike which demolished his immaculate 180B.
On the day I will be servicing for Di at the Novice round so I can't be around.

Tell 00 to watch out on the crests!
That'll give me a date to aim at for the new and slightly less crumpled RX-2.

Thanks to Tamsey's stirling work, the rallysprint is officially and generously being sponsored, provisionally, by the Jerrabomberra Club Hotel. Thanks to the Jerrabomberra Club Hotel, we should be looking at an entry fee around the $150 mark along with a few prizes and trophies hopefully being available to a wider range of people. It was looking like around $180 per competitor before hand...
Other than that, the other noticeable change is that I was informed last Friday afternoon that there is a dispute between ACT Forests and the leasee of the land in Sparrows and until the contract is resolved then they don't want anyone else in there (other than the Mountain Bike Club and Archery club!) and we're not allowed to use it. While we went out at the weekend and had a look around Tidbinbilla (and there is an awesome road that parallels Vanity's - just think Pike's Peak and it was 1.7km long, almost straight, uphill!), we'd lose our main sponsor and the associated value that would generate for competitors (see above Entry Fee). So, to meet all requirements, we're going to try and find the best roads out at Kowen.
Beat.
We're not allowed to use the RoC jump but hopefully, we can still have something similar to close servicing to stage, two distinct stages repeated three times each, two services, good roads, one stage open and fast and one stage tight and slow and avoid goat tracks, open to non-PRC cars...
I'd love to use that straight bit of road in the Kowen but I'll have to look at where the best stages and roads are and average speeds... Suggestions, ladies and gentlemen?
Thanks,
Mark

Bummer about Sparrows. Good on Tamsey for sponsor action. Must remember to take flanno, beanie and ugg boots to pub.
Kowen would be good for this kind of thing. Relatively easy to secure and plenty of road choices.
River Rd and back up Fernside Way for fast action = SS1. That Mountain Rd stage from RoC 2003 is a bit (lot) twistier = SS2.
River Rd stage could have problems with distance - there's a max of 8km for rallysprints.

Apparently it's an insurance risk. I'm unsure who said that, although it may have been ACT forests.

Unfortunately I don't think that's much of a comeback that can be used in forestry applications.

I'd love to use the jump. I asked a RoC representative at the LCCC Committee meeting and she said it was barricaded off with concrete for insurance/liability reasons...If someone knows different...
Thanks, Marc. I'll get Fro to show me on a map where exactly those stages are when I see him in a few days, eh Fro?
Hijacking my own thread....
I was playing around with event costs a few days ago. Kind of annoyed to figure out the following for Forestry costs:
- 10 cars doing 1 km stage, 1 hour: Forest cost (excluding Admin fee): $25.40
- 1 car, doing a 1km stage 10 times, 1 hour: (as above): $4.61
Despite the same bit of track being used the same number of times...
Que?
Mark

What, that particular jump is more of a risk than the rest of the forest?
It's not much of a jump anyway, gotta do warp factor 99 to get any air anyway, which is still better than the Fairbairn Park lump, where warp factor 100 would see you land over by the guard rail. What the point of a crossover like that when noone gets any air, or was I there at the wrong time?
Give me 30 minutes with a Bobcat and I'll show you a jump!!!

Mark, you have PM*.
* - I thought about putting the PM up here as a post, but it might not be politically wise. I'll think of a nicer way to say what I said to Mark, and post it up here later...

Done.
No need to post Fro...
Right. To quote my wombat-like friend, "...Time to stop the bollocks...".
I just spoke to John Freeman, the ACT Forest contact. He says Forestry own it. Wasn't used last year in RoC because the exit corner wasn't right. But he says we're welcome to use it....
This means two of the more...umm, mature drivers in the ACT are entering right?
Now, how do I get a car runing over and under it at the same time - on two different stages, hmmm. Dr.Evil diabolical plan forming...
Honestly, the stages will depend on the number of road closures required: RoC had 29 in there this year!

Mark contact Adrian and Fiona both would have plenty of road books for Kowen - it might save you a significant amount of time.
Also moving those barriers isn't a problem - I winched some out of the way at the mineshaft for ROC a couple of years ago. They aren't as heavy as they look Simon, Darren or myself could move them for you anytime you need.
Cheers,
Daniel
