Winner! Thanks CAMS, Bosch
Hi, just a small gloat, and a thanks to Bosch and CAMS. Got this email just now:

power tool of your choice courtesy of CAMS' major sponsor, Bosch
Australia.
From the following list below, you will need to select three items in
order of preference (ie. 1-3). Normally you will be given your first

* Impact Drill
* Planer
* Stapler/Tacker
* Sander
* Jigsaw
* Circular Saw
* Router
* Heat Gun
* Glue Gun
Now all that you need to do is simply reply to this e-mail as soon as
possible with the following information:
* Your full name
* Address (that you would like the power tool delivered to)
* Contact number (i.e. mobile, home, business)
* Power tool preferences (i.e. 1-3)
NOTE: Please allow between 5 to 6 weeks for delivery.
Kind regards

I went for a router, then saw, then impact drill. Haven't had a good router in a while

When you say router, do you mean Electrically Operated Die Grinder?
C'mon. I woulda thought you'd go for the Angle Grinder. No job is complete without the use of an angle grinder*.

Supercheap is my angle grinder supplier of choice. If you're going to do every job with an angle grinder and as you say, the job isn't done until you have, then make it one you can get renewed regularly. And that only costs $20.
If, on the other hand, the choice involves a quality power tool (and it may not be), then I'm for the expensive die grinder. I thought about the glue gun as cable tie replacement and vinyl roof application tool, but I'd have to buy so much glue to fix all the Appliance bits that fall off.

Well, you've heard my theory on Supercheap electrical devices. While the reciept says you own it, the truth is you're leasing it for the length of the "warranty". When the "warranty" runs out, you inevitably end up having to renew your lease.

What bits have fallen off? Sure, some bits have been ripped off, some left behind, some carefully removed, some stretched beyond their elastic limit... but fallen off. I'll not hear such slander!
As for the vinyl roof... Well, when I have that big roll/pike/dive/off*, I'll be purshasing a hot glue gun post-haste.

Haven't seen them, but my inner economist says they last the warranty period plus one day. Kind of like Chapman and Lotus - get to the end of the race and fall apart, but not a metre before. Still, if they're cheap, could be a goer.

Warraty plus a day? That's when the lease runs out, not how long a particular, individual item will last...
And here in Canberra we have the benefit of late night trading on Thursday and Friday nights (Queanbehole and ACT), so there's double to opportunity to obtain you change-over leased power tool, when you're madly trying to get your car ready for the weekend.
