Promotional Idea
Just been looking at some UK rally sites and came across this
http://www.brcweb.co.uk/Video/
They stream the rallies, ok if youv`e got broadband I suppose but it could be a cost effective way of getting the ACT/NSW series out there some of you tech gurus will have a much better understanding of what it would take and how much it might cost than I do but I thought it seemed like a pretty good idea.
Another couple of interesting points is the trailer after each stream is a promotion for the forestry commision ....... come horse /mountain bike riding check our website for events in the forests etc etc and the arrows and bunting are sponsored by the look of it various motor magazines and suppliers from what I could see.they credit 4 cameramen and had a couple of in car cams by the look of it I wonder what it would cost to do??

When all the front runners in the NSWRC are running 1-2 year old WRC cars and there are a few hundred thousand people who follow it, there'd probably be enough money to do it... :p
Streaming at that quality for that long for mulitple users takes a metric f$#kload of bandwidth-- = $$..
If you wanna talk live streaming, then thats another story all together.. mega mega $$$... satellite uplinks etc...
Tis nice though, I've bookmarked the site!

Awesome. Would be great, but like Rowdy said, would cost $$$$, unless we could get some sponsors for it.

Dont forget Ric that the British Rally Championship has a fair bit of corporate and tv support behind it which brings the $$$ in. If the NSWRC can bring in the corporate support along with a tv channel, then I am all for something like this to happen.
Regarding the UK vision, my understanding of this whole thing was that an agreement was reached between Channel 4 and the MSA (UK Cams) to do it. It has been up since late last year and unfortunately if you are not on broadband, your screwed.
Dont be supprised that you might see our own rally.com.au go that way as well in the next year or so. Hence the reason why we have snippets of footage so far.

Ric, I'd be guessing but I'd be surprised if it was under 150 K. Considering the backend work that'd need to go into the site, plus design, plus footage, plus editing, plus quality rendering from camera to file, plus bandwidth costs, plus maintainence etc etc...
Add to that the low number of people who are interested in NSW rallying (5000 max), and who are online( 1000??) , and you're on a hiding to no return for $$ invested.
At least speedweek had the advantage of catching ppl who wouldn't necessarily be looking for NSWRC coverage, but watched it while waiting for something else, or channel surfed there.

Maybe there could be some corporate site type links to draw people to the Rally footage as in the BRC site, "Forestry " obviously has some arrangement It would seem Pirrelli also has something happening maybe a link with Drive.com or Trading post or one of the other Online purveyors of fine Automotive goods and services. The idea is fundamentally good Imho its just the scale that may need to be adjusted. For instance Trading post must have a huge amount of "Bandwidth" which is probably severely underutilized outside of their peak times maybe they would like 10000 potential new hits every month from car addicted rally nuts and their friends family
