It's great that you have elaborated on the choice of weapons there Mike. I would hate to think that some of our younger brethren would missconstrue your comments.

All praise to Rally of Bathurst organisers.
Giving this opportunity to Clubman competitors will certainly add credibility to future sponsorship proposals.
Being able to compare times with ARC and RS cars will certainly help some people in their quest for additional sponsor $$$ to move up the ranks.

Q1; Re Pitlane Fuelling
Errrrrrrr, do the V8s use Jerry Cans to refuel?
Q2; Re cheapo Subarus
Dale, since Subaru are having a garage sale of all their cars again, have they started construction of all the 06 cars yet?
Q3; Re Privateers have no chance
Didnt Steve Glenney lead for a while in Adelaide?
Q4; Re Alpine Rally being the Pinnacle of OZ Rallying.
Hey Bob, how many of the 05 Alpine Roads would be the same as in the original Alpine era?????
Q5; IYK 000
Where is the link to this auction? I heard Jim sold it to the UK. $75K would have been a great bargain. Any complete RS1800 is worth $100K, if it is ready to start a stage, at least $120K.

Beats me! I never competed in the original Alpines - my car (and budget) invariably was stuffed having competed in the Southern Cross a month earlier!
However the 2001 Alpine certainly spent some time in the forests around Bright (just where I can't say, because I am a mere driver ........ just following instructions!)
Also, one of the reasons that the Alpine is the pinnacle of Australian rallying is that the roads (wherever they are) haven't been RbR*.

I have just had a response to a few questions that I asked this morning.
They reckon that regs should be out (hopefully) late this week on rallybathurst.com.au .
I also asked about getting hold of a set of notes so that note novices like us could have a clue (and in case we can't make it to recce). They're checking into it. The more people that ask, the more likely something will happen.

Are you talking about a sample set of notes for those stages to use as a starting point (like we had for Back in the Black all those years ago) or just any set of notes so you can get a feel for things?

Its good to look at other peoples notes to get ideas on how to do it, and even doable to recce from other peoples notes, as for competing on roads you havent recced using other peoples notes, I really would advise against it.

A sample set of notes for the stages would be great as a starting point, assuming that we can make it to recce.
If you're able to send me a sample of the notes you used for RoC or whatever, at least we'd have a clue about what we're looking at.
Factor - I know what you mean about running blind on someone else's notes, but my thinking was that we wouldn't be committing 100% on our first run on notes anyway.
With the opportunity to run on notes, I'd hate to be completely hosed because we were running on a road book. I'd rather get hosed on equal footing!!!
Anyone know of anything online for getting started on notes? So far I've only found http://www.p-sport.com/glossary.doc for the SCCA stuff in the states.

Here's a couple of articles on noting in the Australian context.
If you haven't used notes before, expect to get hosed for quite a while as you get used to making and driving to them. We had some pretty well sorted notes pre-ROC and had done a couple of short events on notes, but were nowhere near committing to them fully. It took three stages to get the rhythm of reading them right.
But making and competing on notes was definately the ultimate as far as pushing hard goes. There's nothing like the feeling of absolutely committing to a crest or a blind corner and coming out the other side knowing you could not have gone any faster than you did.

Do not even consider using other peoples notes on recce unless you and most importantly your nav understands "their" system 100%. More importantly you and your nav need to understand each other on exactly what each call/feature means.
First pick a system, 1-6 is good.
With whatever system you have picked you MUST got out with your nav and practice. First practice in your local area on the streets, then go and do some gravel stuff, then try to get to somewhere that roughly resembles a rally stage. You only need stretches of 1.5 - 2 kms to get the variety of road changes.
Remember, when recceing the driver MUST be able to call the road and the nav record the driver interpretation - NOT the nav interpreting fro the driver - this requires practice.
Good luck, as Marc said it is a real buzz. When you get it right pacenotes are heaps safer than blind rallying as well.

Change of subject slightly, I don't suppose there's much chance the clubman types would get the roads before the GARC types?
What are they going to be like after a couple of recce runs, and then the GARC cars... ??

Where's that smiley that is laughing and banging on the desk that Matty T knows about?
I'd think we'll be running around down the back, and the roads should hopefully be better than RoC was, at least only one of these gets used three times, and the others only twice at the most.
We're hanging out for some regs. to see some of the finer details.
