Rally Bathurst invites clubman competitors

This is a winnah. Wish I could compete.

The New South Wales round of the Globalstar Australian Rally Championship (GARC) has a new location, new date, and a new policy of encouraging participation from all levels of competitor. Rally Bathurst has a new initiative of inviting clubman competitors to compete alongside the regular GARC teams.

The clubman event provides a great opportunity for those rally enthusiasts who would normally compete in club, multiclub and state rallies to be a part of the energy and atmosphere of this new and exciting event, with the comfort of the high standard of safety and sporting infrastructure that the GARC maintains.

Clubman competitors will be able to experience the thrill of a round of the GARC and also the famous Mount Panorama race circuit and facilities. New pit and paddock facilities were completed for the 2004 Bathurst 1000 V8 Supercar event, with stage two now underway. Mount Panorama will play host to the Super Special Stage and also accommodate Rally Headquarters and the NEC Service Park.

The new and exciting Rally Bathurst will be held from 28-30 October 2005. All stages are being run in the Sunny Corner State Forest, and competitors will be thrilled by the removal of all the rollover drains for which Bathurst is somewhat infamous. Roads will be in great condition.

How to enter the Clubman event
Rally Bathurst organisers would like to make the clubman event as simple as possible and attract some great competitors to compete in this new exciting event. Rally Bathurst’s clubman event will eliminate the expense and fuss of competing in the GARC main event.

Clubman competitors will be able to choose whether to compete on one day or two, to complete reconnaissance or not, or whether to participate in the Ceremonial Start on Thursday evening and the Super Special Stage on Friday night. Scrutineering may be completed at your regional scrutineer (without pre-event scrutiny by Rally Bathurst scrutineers) and entrants can compete in their PRC car without fire bombs or national-level driving attire.

Rally Bathurst Clubman event provides the perfect opportunity for smaller teams to compete alongside the nation’s best rally teams and to be part of this great experience.

Clubman Entry Fees
• 216km competitive distance over two days (not including recce) - $400
• 216km competitive distance over two days (including recce) - $500
• One day of competition (not including recce) - $200
Clubman event entry includes a full road book. Costs are further reduced through centralised service and GARC limits on tyre use.

Event Details

Location:
Rally Bathurst is being held in Australia’s home of motorsport, approximately 200km west of Sydney. All stages are being run in the Sunny Corner State Forest, very close to Bathurst.

Distance:
Day 1 – 110km competitive, 375km total
Day 2 – 107km competitive, 279km total
The shortest stage is the 2km super special, which starts on pit straight at Mt Panorama, turns up Mountain Straight and finishes in the paddock area inside the Mt Panorama circuit. The super special is run four times. The longest stage is SS3/9 Cupits at 22km.

Eligibility:
The Rally Bathurst clubman event is open to crews competing in PRC, Group N and Historic & Classic cars using the same vehicle eligibility criteria as for state championship level events. Clothing requirements are the same as for club, multiclub and state championship events (ie no driving suit required, although they are highly recommended).

Servicing:
All servicing for Rally Bathurst is done at the NEC Service Park situated at Mt Panorama, with all competing crews provided with use of the pit lane facilities provided to the V8 supercars. Each competing car will be allocated an area within the pit complex. These areas will be available to crews from Monday 24 October 2005.

Reconnaissance:
Reconnaissance will take place on Thursday 27 October (and Friday 28 October by application only) and is open to all competitors in the Rally Bathurst clubman event.

Holy Cr.ap!!

$500 - 2 days, recce and presumably pace notes therefore, regionally scrutineered, rescue vehicles, pine plantation roads....
Even cheaper than a 1 day State Round at Bathurst.
No erosion humps as well

Nice work. It's literally like a bolt from the blue.

When I heard of it I was like, yay, bring that ***** on. Girlfriend.

Plus you get the friendly RoC crew running the sporting show so you know it'll be good. The best of both worlds really, good sporting organisation and no ACT Forests to stuff the roads 1 week before.

Hmm. That looks like an absolute bargain. Any navs. tentatively interested maybe could be in a weekend in Bathurst to do the non recce. two day event in the Lancer maybe possibly?

My end of year calendar is becoming fuller than a fat lady's sock at the moment but it's possible and I'm maybe interested.

We can negotiate a deal later. It won't be cheap. Cheaper than RoC but more exxy than a state round.

PM me.

This is a great idea, about time too. In therory then shouldn't this be possible at other rounds than RoC.

I think it is a great move, and a step in the right direction, as I for one would love the chance to compete at that level (even if I would be bring trying to keep infront of the sweep )

Is this gonna be a one off cause it is a new event???

Who knows if it'll be a one-off. Have to see how this one goes first. As for other ARC rounds, having a clubman event there is up to the relevant organiser. Rally Bathurst was keen for more entries.

Ric, you pays your money you make your choice.

Can any of you OH&S savy types explain this to me?? Long w/end in October 40 some V8 supercars at Bathurst with say 500ltrs of fuel each in their overhead fuel gantries in the pits " no problem" 3 weeks later 40 some Rally cars with 400 litres of fuel in approved containers need to store them 200mtrs from the exact same pits and refuel at the same spot WTF!!!!

MMMM No OH&S Brain Surgeon.

But all i can say is the V8 Taxi have personell with fire exstingusher at the ready and the refuellers are dressed in fireproof dress at anytime the car is refueled.

Not like us rally guys, where the refuelling guy has jeans and flanno on and the nearest exstingusher is mounted in a car.

The rally organisers see it cheaper and easier to have one fire safety crew to look after/controll the whole fields fuel holdings, where as V8 supertaxi have one fire crew per team/car.

Maybe I am wrong but that the way i see it.

Matt
