Targas
Hi Guys,
I've been looking into targa racing, but being me, the rules etc. are a bit confusing. Cams has this : http://www.cams.com.au/downloads/art...ons%202006.pdf , which makes it seem to me that its just the same as a normal rally, but on tarmac? Targa West Says this: http://www.targawest.com.au/competitor_info.htm
Down to the question, Im wondering if there are any specific non competive classes or classes at targas that dont require rollcages, seats and harnesses? I know on the TV i've seen a few cars going round that just seem like a standard car to me? I'd love to do a targa if i could enter my car in and just have some fun without being competivie and wringing the neck off my car. Anybody know anything about this?

You want to look somewhere like here:
Targa Tasmania: http://www.targa.org.au/Targa/Primar...gory/index.php
Classic Adelaide: http://www.classicadelaide.com.au/ca/tour/index.html
Targa West offers a "Challenge" category, which allows "entry" without the need for a rollcage.
What you do face is that these events are limited to close to posted speed limits, even thoguht the roads are closed to the public, and frequently have eligibility criteria attached to the cars, in terms of the vehciles "desirability", which relates to it's rarity, historic significance, etc.

Classic Adelaide runs a touring class for people who don't want to heavily modify their cars. The cars run in convoy with an official car at the front and one at the back to keep it moving along. No times are kept and there is no passing from memory.
I think they describe it as "spirited" driving. They travel above the speed limit but not at full competitive speed.

Have you also looked at things like Duttons Rallies and the Grand Prix Rally?

Well the fun of it is (from my view), is that you can give it a bit (they usually have 120km/h limits and chacines and such from what i've seen), and the road is closed off so you can go nuts basically.
Challenge/touring class sounds good, i'll have another hunt around this afternoon. Wondering on the entry costs and all that other stuff too...
/investigates more

Might be worth PMing DaveTrees, and maybe going down to Victoria for a couple of HRA Touring Assemblies... and they're guaranteed to be cheaper than the options listed above...
Check out http://www.classicrallyclub.com.au/, or http://www.hra.org.au.
