Usually whatever is 1:1, which is 4th in my Lancer. If it's a wheel driven dyno then diff. ratios are going to affect your readings anyway.

Any gear you want. Despite lots of talk to the contary, the differences in dyno power readings are very minor in any gear.
The myth was partially created because (typically) lower diff ratios are less efficent (more power wasted in heat and noise) which people incorrectly extrapolated to relate to gearboxes.

Power is measured in HP or kW, just the same as distances are measured in feet or metres.

The tractive effort WILL change enormously depending on the gear the car is in, but it's a mostly useless number - the shape of the tractive effort curve is what matters (it is, effectively, the torque curve without useful units).

Never fear, the Laser will be making an appearance in a forest near you very soon - firstly in Canberra as I'm spending some time with Rick Bates the weekend after Easter (figured it would be stupid to have a quick car with slow driver), then we'll be at Akademos, doing a few ARC rounds after that.

If anyone wants to satisfy their curiosity then they can PM me if they want to meet up while we are in Canberra and climb all over the Laser.
