British Rally Championship - what years did they run F2?

Does anyone know what years the British Rally Championship ran with the FWD 2 litre rules?

1999 was the last year that F2 was the premier class with the renault meganes again dominating. I don't know how many years before that they ran but I get the feeling that renault had dominated for a few years.

In 2000 it opened up so and the championship was won by some guy in a Lancer - can't remember his name but I have the video.

Started in 1997. I "just happened" to find myself in Wales that year (en route to Italy - doesn't everyone go that way?) watching the first round.

I think I've got the 1996 or 1997 series review...was that the year Higgins won? And Alastair McRae was in a Nissan I think?

Had Gwyndaf, Robbie Head in a Megane, Tapio Laukunnen...etc etc?

Twas cool stuff to watch.

I have some stuff on tape from around then too - Robbie Head & Alain Oreille were in the factory Renault Clio Williams'. Seriously quick little cars !

One great bit of footage of some guy who flipped his car & ended up wedged upside down across the road in mid-air between 2 stone walls .... the comments on the in-car from the next competitor along are priceless !!

Were the Clio's about 94 or 95? The one I have is them in the Megane's...Gwyndaf in a Ford...Tapio was in a Golf I think...it might have been the same year that Ford went to the really wide body Escort?

Dunno...might have to drag it out and watch it...makes me like FWD though.
