Closest Rally Sprint to Canberra
Hey People,
Just wondering what the closest rally sprint to Canberra this year?
Now I’m old enough (according to CAMS Manual age is 14) I really wanna do one, but dad will only let me do one close to or in Canberra.
Thanks,
Tristan.

Wagga planning an event
Tristan,
The Wagga car club is planning a sprint for Septemberish. I'm keeping in contact with some friends so when they have a date I can advertise it here.
They are trying for Mundarlo Road (wherever that is).

I'm sure there are plenty of people that are keen to hear about any Rallysprint action the Wagga & District Car Club may be planning!

Yep,
that's why I want to find out a date so I can spread the word.
Hopefully no clashes with other events.
I've managed to get a crew from Wagga interested to come over for the Snap-on as well.
Spreading the rally lurve....

Mundarlo Road is a hell of a road. Think Bega shire road fast...race all the way up, then all the way back. If it gets up im in.

If they are running Mundarlo Road, well, that is an event not to miss.
I've never done it myself before. I was entered for it in 1996, drove down the night before, and all was looking good. But it rained from about 4am onwards, and the organisers pulled the pin.
It is measured precisely at 5.00km. About 2/3 of the stage is flowing, slightly windy, 4th and 5th gear stuff. The last 1/3 of the stage (depending on which direction you're running, of course! The event runs the stage each way) is tighter and steeper - both up the hill, and down it.
A time of 2:30 equates to an AVERAGE speed of 120kph, and for many years, that was the yardstick. I've heard that in more recent years, Louie Doon lowered the stage record to about 2:15 or something like that. If that is correct, then the average speed has been raised to 133kph...
Every time I have the need to drive to/through Wagga, I take the detour and drive Mundarlo Road.
I still think it would be plain spooky at full noise.
Tristan, if you compete there as your first rallysprint, then you have chosen a VERY interesting first driving event!

Holy $hit sell your wife your kids and your house if need be to get to this event because it is awesome. We did it twice in the mid nineties and I would rather do this than most rallies.
Going to look at some old video now. Please keep us informed Julie.

possible date for Wagga Rally sprint
It should be either the 7th or 14th of October for the rallysprint.
I'll give you more info when confirmed.
Pencil in the date.

Tristan, you might wanna check the regs really carefully, and possibly even ring the Wagga club to make sure they're not going to slap something into their supp regs.
There seems to be basically two types of rally-sprints: The usual (in our part of the world) short rally stage type of event, and a "big khanacross" type of event that's held on prvate property.
You might find that the bit where a 15 yo can compete in a rally-sprint only applies to the "big khana" events. I'm basing this on "the vibe" - don't hit the panic button yet, but check it out before you get too excited.

You need to get marryed in the morning during Docco/scruit then you can race off in the end. You will just have to repeate the drive a few times

That's were something like the CRE course (Block 12) is good its a stage and you don't have to leave block 12, which means no public roads.
Marty and I were talking about it while i was stuck at the end of the stage we crashed on (while dad went to get a car trailer), he said you can get your nav to drive on a transport for a rallysprint (if its not to long, as long as he/she has a licence too).

Maybe - this is the sort of thing I'm saying that you should check out. CAMS/ARCom faffed about big time over the same idea (actually regarding L-platers) in rallies, and (IIRC) ended up deciding that it was all too hard.
