NSW Rally Registration Status Update
As most of you would be aware the NSW Rally Advisory Panel and CAMS held discussions with the RTA late last year in an effort to get some changes made to the Rally Registration scheme in NSW ...
A report on the current status of this is now available here on www.nswrally.com (under Documents / News)
The panel is, as you could guess, disappointed with the current status , but please be assured we are not giving up on getting these changes implemented as soon as possible ...

Thanks for your work on this Ian et al!
I for one am waiting patiently for the outcome... hopefully one that is less than three figures/year.

thanks for the update Ian..good to see that the RTA have done nothing but screw people over as usual.
so I guess I'm stuck now with UVPs til they get their act together , as the gem is out of rego and has had an engine change thusly requiring a blue slip?
so I'm up for 30 + bucks, plus 90 minutes of driving, plus 90 minutes on the train, plus up to an hour at the RTA every event.
Great!!
Who's do I ring and speak to to voice my disent?

With the Gem it no doubt has a ADR compliance plate, and as such won't/ shouldn't have issues getting a blue slip for engine change and new rally rego again.
The issue is with import cars imported under rally rego approval applying for new rally rego that now can't be processed.

Yes new imports, have a few friends with imports who have had no issue in renewing rego.

Thanks for the update Ian, looks like the WRCorona will be an ACT resident for a few months yet.

Given that the ACT doesn't have a RAP (I have maybe informally heard that we come under the NSWRAP) what would be the process to initiate these discussions with ACT Road User Services?
Council of Motor Clubs might be useful, but for those with newer cars it might be a good thing to have something to save money?

Cool cheers Ian, hopefully we have something to use in place soon, but a 6-12 months permit sounds very doable as a interim thing. Looking forward to an out come on this!

My reading of the info was " the rally rego scheme does not exist" anymore in which case how can anyone register/re-rego a car on a scheme that does not exist?
I'll be interesting to see what happens next week either way.. perhaps I'll go in 1st thing Saturday morning- the RTA drones are 1/2 asleep and will stamp anything..
Perhaps the gemini should become a canberra resident... god knows it's spends most of it's time there (as have I recently.... :p)

Believe it only applies to 'new' registrations at the moment - but happy to hear of any other problems to add to the list ...
ACT comes under CAMS NSW Office so has to put up with the one RAP - once we get NSW RTA sorted we will have an 'example' to use for the ACT - supposedly the entire country is heading towards a 'common' set of rules (can't see it but you never know ....)

I had no end of trouble getting anything out of ACT RUS other than "Because that's how it's always been" when I asked them why it costs $1800 to get a number plate that doesn't start with Y.

Rowdy,
If the Gemini hasn't been out of rego for more than 3 months, you should be OK. I think that's how it works with "normal" rego, so it shouldn't be different here.
Ian (and all the others involved),
Thanks for your efforts. Any improvement on the current scheme would be a good thing.

Andrew- I'm hoping so- but I suspect using RTA logic the engine # change will probably cause some kind of issue
I know the new system will be a massive improvement if all goes to plan, but the interim isn't looking good..

Don't think so. A blue slip is for "identification". Your rego is a continuation, but the "identification" has changed slightly.
Don't see why it would be a problem for any logical mind, but you're dealing with the RTA, so that doesn't apply really. There are some great staff, but they seem to be few and far between.
If all else fails, go in, renew the rego, get back in the queue and hand them the blue-slip. Do you have a pink slip as well as a blue slip, or just the blue slip?
