Rally RX2 Project
Blue, series 1 coupe.
Supra gearbox, 12a, ask Marcus for more information if required as I bought the thing off him. It now stands rather dismally, but someday shall be glorious.

Needs to have the engine possibly rebuild, rewired (fun I'm sure) and some rust repairs perhaps.

Don't want to swap it for something that won't try to kill you, do ya?
At least a semi-serious question. And yes, I do know how ugly it is.

Basics -
1971 Series 1 RX2, genuine Aust delivery so absolutly stuff all left of them
Believed to be first rally in 1974 and also did the 1974 Southern Cross in the hands of a pastor
1977 was part of the Old Man Emu team
Sort of disappeared around 1980 into club events, re-emerged after a massive crash to become the Road and Race RX2 that occasioanlly was written about in Modern Motor in the late 80's as a Group 2E / Group G car. Still holds the Group 2E record around Catalina
Destroyed again, rebuilt again and converted to PRC
Went to Nigel Williams, then went to me.
Great car with a hell of a lot of genuine rally history. Deserves to return as a genuine classic in it's full glory, which we are working on.
Let alone a genuine Series 1 coupe is seriously worth preserving in the first place

I'm not much good on Mazda models, but he did run one that looked like that in the "Big Wet One".
It was painted pale yellow, which I think was its original colour.

1973 Southern Cross George Kahler did run an RX2 Coupe, can't remember colour but do remember "Jesus Saves" emblazoned on both sides of the car behind doors. As I recall the entrant was the Christian Autosports Club.
He finished 29th with GOB 26th and I finished 32nd navigated by Wally Pywell.

That explains the Dark blue rollcage and boot paint, And the dark blue paint under the bog in the rear!
The bent White doors and guards we got are explained as well! You cannot miss OZY's spotlight mounts!
In OME colours, It was yellow, There is still some overspray on the front.

I could be a year off in my recollection and history... which in that case HD's got the ex Kahler car? Well damn. I knew it had a load of history, but ex Kahler is amazing it's survived this long.

With a history like that, this car belongs in a museum... It's amazing it's still around after all those years. Can't wait to see it restored back to it's former glory.
Long live old-schoolers!

Hi
I was the "team manager" for George and the Christian Autosports team that ran the RX2 in 72/73
It was originally standard Mazda yellow colour with sign writing and was run in 73 Southern Cross (think we ran it in 72 as well) - where it ended up in a tree on the second night (pouring rain). Had a Bond Roll half cage
In 72 some of the preparation was done at a workshop at Peakhurst in Sydney and later over near where George lived towards Gladesville
I lost contact with the car in 74 (got married, usual story)
Some of the unique mods included holders for helmets and spare oil in the back seat squab area
Drivetrain was standard RX2, including the mandatory stuck in 3rd gear problem.
Lighting was Cibie - Oscars and Super Oscars in either 4 across or 2 up 2 down. Lighting switchgear was housed on a box between the seats and used 2 x new era relays with twin circuits. There was also a switch to cut out high beams (although that may have been on the Bellett George ran before the RX2
Nice to see the old girl is still about
Here is a tribute to George

and a pic of the RX2 in 73 Cross
