And so it begins
Hi there, Been online for quite awhile. Thinking should I buy this or buy that, get one ready made or do it myself, So thanks for all of the advise from the members of this forum. I have now got a project in the shed.
I have purchase a ST162 celica, Why I hear you ask?
Should provide some solid beginners FWD action.
It was rust free
Cost $500 bucks
Has a 3sge, and fuel injection. (and lots of GFB available)
loves to rev, and sound, ooooo ahhhgh (Yep that S2000 sort of sound)
Parts are cheap, well sort of cheap. (at least if a lunch an engine a JDM is only a couple of hundred, and shells are getting cheaper "god fobid i need one")
So the list as is stands (Well everything)
Suspension, Roll cage, Wheels, seats, Terratrip - et-al, Quick tidy up and a spray job, (White and red like the original Team toyota europe)
Now I would love to put a photo up here but I dont know how. (Advice on who to do this most welcome )
Would also welcome any advise on parts ect, as this is all new to me.
I have built a couple of road cars, but nothing like a competition car. So just let me know if you have any pointers.
Anyway, I will keep putting up details as they change.

This the one from Allclassies? $500 for a twin cammer is a good buy.
You're clearly on the right track - be good to see it progress.
As for pictures, there are two ways:
1. You need them to be hosted. We use photobucket and have no complaints, but there are plenty of other free hosting services.
Then you link the photos to the forums
If you've just got one or two, email 'em to me and I can host, but it's worth the minimal effort to set up an account for yourself.
2. Add them as a thumbnail when you post. Haven't done it for ages, but the steps are pretty straight-foward.

Good option, as you've said great engine and the other bits are pretty cheap. How much do they weigh?
There is a FWD one getting around in the WA Clubman championship. Do a search for the WA Rally website, the video section has a few videos which show it.

A guy in QLD also runs one.
Box options are good (normal ST205 dog boxes will fit)...suspension should be similar to 4WD variants.
Good choice allround...I'd expect weight to be around 1300kg?

Yep the one from the All classie
Yep that the one, nice young apprentice spraypainter.
Everything is in tact, Well except for all the bits I have just pulled out of it.
Somthing therapudic about pulling cars apart. (I didnt find any rust , and no signs of accident damage)
Now for suspension, Spoken to DMS they are pretty sure the 4WD will fit I just need to check some things first.
Will work on the photos tonight.

Still working onthe Celica, but now on a longer term
So I am still going to finish me ST165 project, but found the cash (Thanks to a new job, and very understanding wife). to buy a 1976 escort. hence the change of avatar.
Should be a hoot, learn / classic rallys withthe esky.
And work towards a Carlos 4wd replica.
Picking hte car up october, posting photos when it arrives.
See you in the forrest.

Good choice Mathew.
The Celica in Front wheel drive is a little heavy and not as easy as the Escort to drive.
Although it would be easier to go from the Celica to a 4WD car later on if you choose to go that way.
Good luck

Seems to be the case according to the log books
Just getting thru the paper work fully now, Yes the log book states Reg No. IOF621 Original Build 91
93 bought by Max Irvine Brown.
Somewhere along the way has had a new roof, and Looking at the pictures posted I can guess why.
Seems to have run 1 or two rallies per year, but is sound from a drive train point of view.
Last rally April 2007. Next rally ?? 2008
Any more history... ?
