Brendan's 1600
Hey guys
I thought i would finial post something about my project, I am fixing up a 1600 which i purchase just before christmas,
So i went for a drive to Sydney to pick it up, and took it back to my parents farm where it is easier for me to work on.
The car came with a bolt in cage so was a start, just had a little rust in the old girl which i have slowly been fixing up, learning how to bog, weld which im getting better at, and paint which i have never done, so im hoping it will end up alright
Last week i painted the engine bay so i could start seeing what parts im in need off to get it up and going,
i have added a few photos of my slow progress

Argh! No such thing as "still" log booked - either it's log booked, or it's been written off/reshelled without changing the body number.
In other words: Once a car gets a log book, then it's log booked. The only time the car can become not-log-booked is if you ball it and the log book is marked "Car rooted, not to be used again" (and that is a very rare occourance, partcularly nowdays).

Sorry Nathan, It's been a long time since I've had a log booked car. I thought you had to pay every year, like everything else, to keep it current. Pulling head back in now.

Ah, sorry, that probably came out harsher than I intended.... Just a little bug bear of mine, 'cause it can create so much confusion.

Well iv manage to make it home to get some more work done on the car at long last.
finished painting the shell of the car not the best of jobs but for a first time i thinks its ok, just needs a little buffing
then i pulled the motor out again, and changed the sump from a 180B sump to a 1600 one, put the motor back it and checked that it runs, as its been 12 months since i sat the head on it and havent checked it, started with out any problems once i got fuel into the webbers
now to start looking at some wireing so i can start the car while sitting in the drivers set, not that it has one yet, and paint the doors bonnet boot,
looked at hooking the tail shaft up but its to long "expected", am useing a 240k 5speed,
anyone know where in canberra is the best place to get this fixed, shortend also does anyone know what length it should be for this combo?

Iv been working hard trying to get the car more ready.
been busy with the doors and boot, not happy with the boot will have to be repainted in time, but the car now and doors and door windows, and a boot that opens and closes. and installed the bumper and realized the boot is about 1cm out from where it should be " will the be a problem other then the boot not aligning correctly?"
started to look at the wiring in the engine bay, hooked 3 wires up enough to make the engine run and tried looking at other wires for temp oil press ect, they look like a big hack job so might be a case of doing the hole engine bay with fresh new wires, and install relays while im at it
i went and pulled the seat out of the 180B mounting points don't back the 1600 points so a custom set will have to be made up
then i when to hook the clutch up, after buying a new master cylinder, new i had 3 slaves to choose from and 2 lots of pluming well first slave wasent worth while looking at and destroyed the connection attached to the master cylinder the second slave had been kept under cover on a gearbox so put that one on, started pissing fluided out the shaft, the 3rd slave was ceased open so in the vice it went and hooked it up and worked wonders so in the near future new pluming and slave's on the shopping list
then time to get the motor running found out there was still fuel in the tank, must be 5 years old so drained it all flushed the lines and got pressure up and she started moves the dissy a little and idled nicely, so Webber's need a kit and rubber mounts and linkages and that should be a goa
so drove it for first time in and out of the shied. mission complete for this stands at home
now i need to move the car to canberra so its easier to work on so if anyone is able to help out with a tow car and trailer or even if you want to go for a weekend cruse and check out an organic farm, im sure some sort of deal can be worked out
more photos to come

Hi Brendan,
I noticed you have seam welded the strut tops but there didn't appear to be any extra bracing.
As I'm also rebuilding a 1600 ATM I'm just woundering what needs to be welded & what extra bracing most people do to the 1600's? Any help would be great.
Thanks
Darren

Car looks great dude. I'm just about to do the whole re-shell thing to my 1600.
How long did it take you to get reasonable with the welder/spray gun? I'm planning on seam-welding and painting it myself to save $$.
I figure there's only one way to learn these things!

Well the 1600 has gone to new home some time ago. But by the sounds of things should be out next year some time.
I didn't do any welding on the car. but i have welded before with some luck.
Spray painting well this was my first time ever best to start on the flat bits like bonnet doors then work to the corners and try and not let it dribble its all lots of fun
