Datsun OneHundredEightyBee
1976 Datsun OneHundredEightyBee (180B)
Purchased in 2002. It had a cage, and was mostly in the shape it is now, but as with most rally cars, has been significantly "de-bugged" along the way.
Body: 180B 4 door shell, some stitching that resembles a chicken being squeezed. CAMS Log Booked. Single roof vent. Painted in white two-pack, that apparently isn't Herron White, despite being told otherwise.
Interior: 10 point roll cage, CAMS ROPS certified. Sparco race seats. 3 inch harnesses. Dodgy vinyl (about to be replaced) steering wheel. Terratrip 202+ rally computer. Terraphone intercom system. Battery located in boot
Engine: L18, with (40 thou?) overbore. Twin 45mm Webers, 74 cam. Extractors. Bluebird Electronic ignition. Rebuilt by TTS after I broke the crank at Back in the Black in 2003. Still going strong, despite my best efforts to explode it.
Fuel Pump: Pierburg, mounted in boot.
Gearbox: 280ZX.
Diff: R180, 4.625 ratio, limited slip centre.
Front Suspension: 240K struts with Pedders inserts after the (second-hand) Tokico inserts finally gave up at the Alpine. Unkown springs, standard 180B strut tops.
Rear Suspension: Bilstein shocks, due for replacement. 725 lb/in King Springs. Plated and gusseted trailing arms. Plated rear crossmember.
Brakes: Pedal box. Lines through cabin. Hydraulic Handbrake.
VK Commodore front calipers all round, with machined down Magna rotors. GAVSport RBsomethingorother pads in the front, cheap ass pads in the rear.
Wheels: 15" Bluebird TRX rims (lots of them). I budget about one every two events for destruction. Swapping over to R31 Skyline Silhouette rims in the near future.
Tyres: Steers on the front (Yokohama MT-131, Dunlop SP72 or SP73), rears are whatever is available (MRF, Dunlop DZ86RW, Yokohama A035, etc)
It is a dog, but it's my dog, and it keeps on serving me well. When it's not breaking halfshafts, or crownwheels, or cranks, or stub axles, or...
