Mathew's WRC Hyundai Accent build
Ok he is going to hate me for letting the cat out of the bag, but there was a patch of grass at the Cullen household in suburbia that didn’t have a car or trailer on it, and Mathew had all but made up his mind that this year was the last year to run his Excel, and wanted something quicker but different and still have that fun factor and be a little bit newer as well
So with that in mind, and a great deal of knowledge of making a stock standard Excel go fast Mathew and I picked up this little Accent for under 1K at the actions today.
It is a little high on mileage but still under 100K, and the body ans mechanicale are in perfect condition except for the dented bumper.
We will be transplanting our current grunter engine at the end of the season, and adding some fun things like quad throttle bodies, bigger cams , ecu etc,
to give it lots more grunt to make it more competitive, as well as a Quaife LSD and bigger brakes all round. Suspension will be Murray's thats already been decided. We are a little worried about the gearbox, but we will cross that bridge when we blow it up.
the quads are already sitting in the garage
Mechanically it is very similar to an Excel, they have just engineered lots of little things better.
We are taking our time and dont excpect it to be ready until the end of the year, mainly due to Evo and Excel running this year.
At the end of the day it will be a lot of fun, and sound awesome in the forrest
Ben.

Considering the name you've given this thread, there will be NO EXCUSE for not painting/signwriting the car to look like the WRC accent.

If you run it as a CRC, you can also use the bodykit...

Have a chat to Mark Thompson at Penrith Brake & Clutch about anything that requires a bit of tweaking.
He ran a PRC/GpA spec "Accent" for a while, and may even have some stuff sitting around.

Bugger. I knew I should have bid an extra $50 on those! Good to see that they will be going onto a rally car.
Do Quaife make an LSD that fits the Alpha gearbox?

thats an awesome concept Ben, it will look a d sound awesome in the forest!
i agree with Bob, it deserves the works livery, the red white and blue one would look awesome, plus you could run it in the full works trim (incl. Turbo) in the AMSAG series

I think Mathew wants the same white and black paint scheme as the evo, but that could change, But we have discussed a WRC style body kit, and paint
scheme.
According to the Quaife catalogue they list an Accent, so it will be interesting to see if it fits, I would prefer a clutch LSD but i havnt found anyone so far that makes them. Sorry Damo Mathew really really wanted the quads.

OK a really dumb question.....Has anyone checked a Sante Fe final drive and íf' its a fit in any other Hyundai gearboxes?
I realise its a much different vehicle, so its a billion to one chance.
Ratio is nice though 5.071:1

yeah not sure on the gearbox front yet, we will see how the stanard one goes first.
But on the bodykit front it looks like they were available from hyundai,
Accent Authorised Body Kit Now Available - AutoWeb News
so still technically PRC legal.

awesome stuff. quick qu, will the quad TBs work with the standard ECU or do you need to "swap" the ECU PCB over?

of course it isnt exactly the same, im not too concerned about the side skirts and rear wing in that article, i was mainly concerned about the front splitter to make it PRC legal, a big WRC style Rear wing should be ok under new PRC rules.
slowlearner i doubt the ecu will handle the quads, in fact im not even going to try, will probably just buy an Autronic SMC.
Ben.
