Wanted - Mk2 Escort rally parts
After much deliberation we've decided to build a 2L Mk2 Escort for next year, so I need lots of parts........
In particular I’m after a twin Weber manifold and any other go fast Pinto engine bits, type 9 g/box, LSD, seats, brakes, suspension, ideas....
email contact is: bruce.watman-eds@eds.com

Not sure if they are MK2 but a guy up the road from me has about 4 or 5 in his yard...Do you want me to check???
I could get a spare car for you...or a shell at least...

Thanks Ray, but i'm mainly after go fast rally bits at the moment.
I have the spare panel set already and i hope i'll never need another shell.
I'll keep it in mind though.....

Onya Bruce, now you learn about expense and rarity (rarity no worse than the Lancer I s'pose!).

Maybe Kev, but i think it'll be cheaper to build an escort rather than a datsun simply because all the rally prep information your heart desires is on the web. From where to seam weld to shock valving and spring rates for all surfaces. There's no development cost plus there's plenty of escorts (and capri's) at my local pick a part wrecker.
Still, i know it costs a lot to start from scratch

Hey Bruce.
Try getting a hold of Rob Mules. I know he still has a close ratio dog box he imported towards the end of his escort days. If you don't have his contact details, PM me and I will get him to get in touch with you.

Daniel Gillogly is looking at getting rid of all his MKII Escort stuff, including the car.

Call Mark Wagstaff 0419 681 193 he runs a MkII and has a few parts in the shed. I know he has a spare LSD.
Mark got a homologated cage from Safety Devices in the UK - was bags cheaper than having one put in here.
Best tip is to get the Ford Motorsport Rally Preparation Manual - it has everything you need to know on shell prep and suspension. Gearbox stuff is a bit old, and motor stuff isn't useful.
Find a RS2000 and put a MkII front on it, the RS2000 shell is a motorsport shell, with all the gussets and strengtheners done at the factory.
And if you find someone with any knowledge whatsoever about building Pintos, please tell him and me! It is a pain in the arse not having a guru to go to when you need one. We've blown up 2 pintos now, Leitis has done 4. They are tricky things to sort.

ezzy stuff
Dirtboy..
here is a site that I found usefull when I was considering building an escort..
there is a forum on there as well that has heaps of info, classifieds etc, and questions seem to get answered pretty quickly
the works escorts site
Also, try Dave La Maitre - from what I understand he rallied a mk II until his back gave in about 18 months ago - I think he is trying to get back into it, and I believe he has the knowledge / parts / contacts that would help you on your way - he is in canberra on the north side (can't remember where)
email him at: dave368@austarmetro.com.au
I also have a workmate that is selling a fuel injection setup for a pinto - I believe that he's pretty negotiable with the price (~$700 )
he's on the bmsc forum as "rocky and henrietta" ..
Cheers
Jason

Hey tort.
If you are looking for a pinto guru youneed look no further than Rob Mules. Although he will probably deny the staus he ran a VERY HEAVILY worked pinto super grunter for years with very few problems, and he drove it like a man posessed. Admittedly the buil cost was somwhere near what many prc cars are sold for whole as all the bits were imported especially. Rob is going to build the new motor for Rich Leitis so you can expect to see a makred improvement in his reliability. He probably won't build one for anyone else but he is a wealth of info regarding what works and what blows up, and I'm sure he would be more than happy to discuss it. Give him a go.
