Mazda RX-7 Series 5 rally car for sale.

Yeah, you read it right. This is not just a "testing the water" thing, I do want to sell it... It's a great car that allows a mediocre driver to get good results, but my interest is waning, and I really want to get a new dirt bike... (and finish the Volvo so I can continue to get my rally fix).

There are THREE of these that are rally cars, and this is the only one that's for sale.
I honestly believe that these are the ultimate 2WD rally car - they are extrodinarly well balanced, light, easily make lots of power, steer and stop brilliantly and are proven to be durable enough for rallying. Drivetrains are damn near indestructable (my gearbox failure at CRE 2005 is the first anyone has ever heard of).
Parts are cheap and easily available, thanks to the hundreds of imports and front cuts that are flooding into Australia.
And doesn't eat tyres! One pair on the rear will easily last a whole rally at my speed.

Engine / drive-line:
Fresh import S5 13B Turbo motor.
Dyno proven 150kW at the wheels, with a conservative tune (has made 180kW with a more agressive but still-safe tune).
Microtech MT8.
3" exhaust.
Big aluminium Phil Donohue built radiator.
TWO oil coolers.
Twin plate Mazdaspeed clutch on chromoly flywheel.
S5 Turbo gearbox (supposed to be an Efini one, with a lower 5th gear).
4.11:1 2-way mechanical LSD.
MazdaSpeed diff mount.
Bosch Motorsport fuel pump (044?).

Interior:
Two Velo Esprit seats.
Brantz Pro (has speedo and average speed - essentially a 303 equilivant).
TRS 3" rotary buckle harnesses (end 2006 expiry).
Terraphone Pro.
First Aid kit, safety triangles, helmet net, etc etc.
Very serious multi-point welded in, tower-to-tower steel roll cage built by Walker Chassis in SA.

Suspension/brakes/steering:
Front struts are ex-TTE 50mm jobbies, in STA/Lochleigh bodies, with height adjustable 225lb Eibach springs. Billet aluminium spherical bearing strut tops. More crash resistant than ProFlex, I reckon!
Rear is 50mm Bilsteins, with height adjustable Eibachs.
Brakes are big alloy 4-piston calipers on the front, with single piston on rear. Large vented discs all around. Ferodo DS2500s all around.
Brake bias valve.
Rear steer eliminators.
Ten 15x7 ROH Reflex wheels, all with good (or better!) rally tyres fitted.
Power steering (~2.2 turns lock-to-lock).

Body/exterior:
Seam welded engine bay/interior.
Reasonably new blue paint.
Roof vent, mudflaps, all the usual rally stuff.
Bodyshell has never been seriously crashed, but has done a number of rallies, so is not pristine...
All wheels still point where they should!
Light pod, with four Cibie Oscar SCs.
Cibie H4 head-lights.
Weighs 1280kgs (class minimum is 1260kgs, and can easily be brought down to well under 1180kgs without otherwise breaking the PRC rules).
Tinted side windows (thanks to Ferret).

Spares:
Complete rolling import S5 RX-7 body shell, that has been crashed (but is fixable!). Shell has Australian import approval and has been road registered. No sun-roof!
At least one of every panel, including an aluminium turbo bonnet.
Good S5 Turbo motor in pieces.
Gearbox with no third gear (ideal starting point for a CR gearset).
Locked diff.
Half-shafts (you'll 'never' need them though!).
Cross-members, steering rack and suspension arms.
Bilstein struts with Eibach springs.
Intercooler.
Turbos - One damaged high-flow, one good condition standard (both with CAMS/FIA seals intact).
Standard clutch and flywheel.

Results:
4th outright, 2nd 2WD, third privateer at Subaru National rally of Canberra 2004.
3rd place 2003 ACT Clubman Rally series.
1st place 2004 ACT Clubman rally series (won four rounds of six).
3rd place in class (P4) 2004 NSW rally series after contesting only two rounds.
Has several 2WD stage wins, despite very conservative driver (only one small dent in two and a bit seasons, no big crashes ever!).

Price:
$16,500, including all spares, ready to go. Includes nearly three months ACT rally rego. Price can be negotiated with spares package, spec level, whatever... Particularly with regard to the generic rally gear (seats, Brantz, etc).

Pics:
Here are heaps from Bega 2005.
If you want more, go to www.mfoto.com.au and so a search for "Senior" for a start. I can email LOTS more pics if wanted - you just have to ask.

Ring Nathan on:

FULL specs, results and details available if wanted.

The bike short list:
KTM200,
TM250/300 (two stroke),
GasGas 250/300,
or maybe a KTM250/300/380.

When the time comes, I'll make the decision based primarily on how much money I feel like spending, and what's available at the time.
My heart is saying 2001+ TM250 or 300, but we'll see.
And yes, I know a DRZ400 is a more sensible option, but, well, y'know... "bleah".

Volvos, dirt bikes, it's all a charade........

I reckon the real reason Spac wants to sell the RX7 is to take up a full time navigating job in Hurlboy's blue LA Lancer from Wandandian.

I'm proud of you mate, Team Chrysler/Mitsubishi welcomes you with open arms.

Couldn't resist.

The TM obvioulsy has the best suspension, and the GasGas is suppose have a real smooth (and rideable) engine with the injection, but I think the KTM has the best overall package. Definitely go the 300 or 380 though, the 200 is too small.

Or you could just buy a CR500E and hang on for dear life, like me.

I don't want to get a 4-stroke, and (AFAIK) the 2-stroke GasGases are still carbed (certainly the ones I'd be looking at are).

A work mate has just (and I mean in the last hour) bought a 2001 KTM380. Dunno... I can't really see myself needing anything that big. I've got a TM125 ATM, and I do want a larger bike, mostly for transports and fire-road stuff... The 200 should be better, while still being a small bike???

CR500E? Do I look like a Subaru owner!???!?

Anyhow, it's all academic while I still own the RX-7...

I had to sell my 2001 380 to get back into rallying

Best bike I've ever owned.....and I've had a few !

I 've been hanging off the critters since I was 5 years old ! And I've got plenty of wonky bones to prove it !

I like the 300s as they have the grunt and "feel" a bit smaller than the 380 ( I like these too) Of the 380s ive riden they feel like riding a 4 stroke as the don't rev as much. I think your to fat for the 200( you fat bastard ), but these are a real good thing too. Spose it depends on what you want to do. If its only the single track out the back of your old mans place get the 200. If you want to do long days in the high country get the 300. Go and ride some 4 strokes as well. I think ill have a beer with you next club meeting.
