Well, I'll start my report from the nav's side of Ray's Charade.
Russell at Carco did a lot of repairs and tidying up of the car before the Event as Ray and I were way too busy at work to spend the time on it.
Friday
Bluetts was OK we were a little down on power but still was a good first run getting into a rhythm with our notes.
Saturday
Oakey Creek, power was back and we were having much more fun. Lots more pace and Ray and I had the pace notes sorted for this stage, Ray was committing too the corners harder and relying on the notes. This became a bit of a problem when we had a R4 about 200m from the end of stage. Came in about 130ish and ran wide onto a fairly soft bank, I thought it was going to be ok.... but not so. The car rolled/flipped 2-4 times and landed back on it's wheels. Couldn't reverse out as the car was beached and the back right end was kinda wrapped around the wheel.
Damage assesment:
Front left guard/body pushed down about 2-3"
Front end had a log sticking out of the front 5" round throught the front bar but next to the radiator and intercooler. lights and grill smashed
windscreen smashed
Front right guard battered and just on the wheel - pulled it off wheel at the scene.
Drivers door pushed in and glass smashed, mirror still intact
Right Rear corner generally mushed and pushed left, hatch opened but didn't close again.
Rear lights smashed.
Rear Left generalll battered.
Navs door bent in and glass smashed, A-pillar pushed down and back onto cage.
Roof really bent, whole car generally bent and twisted.
Good bits
Both occupants A-OK
Drivers pride bit bruised.
Time for a rant. Anyone who winges about the cost/time/ amount of safety gear required can F&CK RIGHT OFF! I was really happy we had the as comprehensive cage as we did the whole car took a beating but it the occupants area was intact, 3" belts has left slight bruised but nothing bad. Seats held us perfectly, firebomb was ready but not needed, helmets were good but didn't hit anything because of the other gear and the belaclanva wasn't uncomfontable at all, as I first thought it would be.
Suits kept the glass out of the important bits.
I would like to try a leatt brace or something similar aswell.
Car - well everything was bent apart from the suspension and it drove down the road fine once pulled of the bank. Engine good, radiatior still good, gearbox and drivetrain fine.
So afterwards Ray was talked into letting us try to repair it and rejoin on sunday- many thanks to Russell Battison again for assistance with this. But I think the clincher was that it was my birthday and I asked really nicely to be able to work on the Charade for hours and hours as a present.
Rick Brault from Ricks Transport and Forklift Services came out in about 45mins, with his DAF tilttray (It's pretty impressive eh Stu?) We could have fitted 2 large cars on it.
Russell And Dave got the the work shop at Carco Exhaust and automotive ready.
Lots of repairs done over 7-8 hours to have the car back at park ferme in time. Too many to list suffice to say it was a massive effort by,
Russel and David - Carco
Shane Tanner - Kartology motorsport
Graeme - Well travelled crew member
Grahame - Revolution Racegear
Rob Mcgregor - good friend and general deviant
Arron and Greg
Thanks to everyone else that helped who I don't know your names or failed to pay attention cause it was so busy.
Anyone who saw the car on Saturday and Sunday knows how good it looked.
Sunday:
Scutineers were happy and we rejoined.
Thanks to everyone who pushed us back and forth until it started in the morning! Cheers!!!
Ran well the whole day, taking it steady as we really wanted to finish to thank our sponsors and crew for all their efforts. Unfortunately we didn't get to drive over the finish ramp and thank you in front of the crowd.
