Dakar 2008 cancelled.

Just heard from Tomas Tomecek (the Livescore Tatra truck driver)
that Dakar Rally was definitelly cancelled.

I was supposed to board my plane (from Prague) to Lisbon in 3 hours,
(not competing this year, just following the rally).
Unfortunatelly we have to wait at least another year.

At least it gives you 12 months to get ready for the next one, right? Right? No consolation, I know...

I hope you're right in that the Dakar runs next year.
With passage to Senegal now closed and probably considered
unsafe to use for the next couple of years (Mauritania probably not an option
next year and crossing Mali from Morocco is out of question due to unstable
situation in nothern Mali) we may see a return to north african countries
(Tunisia - Libya - Egypt).

However with Dakar not finishing at the Pink Lake
I'm afraid this may be the end of the Dakar rally as we know it.
(I hope I'm wrong)

How does that help?? they still have to get down to Dakar it can start from Sydney thats not the problem
