Rally Bonnie Doon (29 March 2008) Round 1 VCRS
Fantastic effort by Carl Stewart and Dean Price at Rally Bonnie Doon here in Victoria today to claim a (provisional) 2nd outright in a full field of 70 competitors. And they missed the outright win by just 2 seconds!
Bloody well done guys!
I must admit from a personal perspective, as many of us said at the presentation earler this evening, this rally today was just awesome! Amazing roads... great close competiton... hardly any "hanging about" ...and just the right length!
Well done to Scott Spedding and the team from North-Eastern Car Club (and all the event sponsors) for putting on such a corker of an event!
Ahhh... the serenity... if only every rally could be like this one, the world would be a better place!
Cheers, and again well done guys!
David

Top event A++++++
What a fantastic event, hats off to Scott Spedding and all of his team. I can't think of anything to fault the rally on, other than the lack of free beer Stage 4 (Barjarg) by far the best peice of dirt road I have ever driven
I will give a full event report through the week as the brain is a little dull and lacking sleep, but for now just a few of my thankyou's,
Michelle and Wes for once again following me around the country side with out complaint driving almost 16 hours to see us for all of about 25 to 30 seconds of action. You guys rock and I love ya
Dean Price for the excellent nav job, top effot for some one that has not nav'd for over 4 years and concentrates on driving, also for the use of your Terratrip and terraphone.
Travis Robson for the service work, each service he was under the car with spanners in hand leaving little left to do.
Team Croker style fan club at the spectator points, well all of my family and friends that turned up to support us. Michelle said it sounded like one of the Crokers were coming
Nighto for the use of the VN commo ute for tow car and service, WHAT A BEAST!!!!
Derek Reynolds for a very humbling speach at the finish. I was very honoured to recieve the words he had to say. A true gentleman! and also to David Kelly for his words of encouragement.
Normally to lose by 2 seconds would be a frustration, but I couldn't care less, for me the roads and all the people involved during and after the event and Derek's speach made winning or loosing all irrelevant

Oh yeah Stewy... its IMO 9.58km of pure unadulterated bliss... and with only a handful of calls, rather than what I might usually see as being a bit boring with not much to do for me as co-driver.. it was a chance to simply sit back (a little) and enjoy an amazing stretch of road that has everything anyone could want!
..although that sneaky HTS yump on SS's 5 & 10 was pretty cool stuff too..
ahh..bugger it... the whole event! The perfect model for what accessible to the greater rally community special stage rallies should be like...
..but yes... Barjarg 1 & 2... MORE PLEASE...
...and to echo Derek's comments, your drive Carl was incredibly impressive! After absolutely getting everything right on both our first and second pass through Barjarg, and Derek and I thinking that the generally uphill nature of the Barjarg stage would be where with the power of the Evo we would have the advantage over 2WD's... to find that you & Dean and Derek/me did the second pass in exactly the same time.. left us absolutely in awe of what your drive must have been!
If you have any in car footage from your second pass over Barjarg... that I WANT to see!
Cheers and all the best (and here's hoping a few more from the wrong side of the Murray come and play with us here in Victoria soon).

Dave I do, only problem is getting it from the camera as the firewire plug in the camera is stuffed, and tracing another one down has been a struggle. The only place in Nowra who can fix it, have quoted a 6 to 8 week turnaround time
I will see what I can do.

They are missing out big time, and if the Akademos is what I have been told, bring it on
Cheers Carl

Colin McRae- For any successful driver, it's confidence. Self-belief. But that's in anything in life. If you're confident in what you're doing and you really believe in yourself that you can pull it off, then generally you will.
